Stats:

Tyan Trinity 371 (i440BX version with last BIOS rev.)
Powerleap 1.1GHz PIII Coppermine kit
640MB Kingston PC100
2 15GB Maxtor ATA66
Hitachi DVD
SB Live!
Netgear 10/100Mb NIC
Creative Annihilator 2 (GeForce 2 GTS w/ 32MB)
Mad Dog 450W PS

As the subject states, my old biddie is a bit pathetic nowadays. Mainly an extra WoW/EQ/Dungeon Seige machine, I can't complain much except about the video card.

I had a Visiontek Radeon 9500 Pro given to me, and even with info from a billion sites, I just can't keep it from crashing. Visiontek says it won't work, ATI says it should, and still others have gotten 9600's to work on 440BX boards.

Anyway, here's the questions:

1) Is there any way I can get this damn thing to work without having to buy a new MB/CPU setup?

2) If not, what are the best ATI and/or Nvidia AGP cards that will work for me? The best ATI PCI card? (Best bet for a PCI Nvidia card seems to be the FX5500, or FX5700LE)

Sorry this is so long. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No they haven't. 9600's aren't keyed for a 3.3v slot. 9500 and 9700 series cards are, so are 9800 and 9800 Pros (but not the 9800XT).

You might be having a power issue. I don't believe your 9500 Pro has an auxilliary power plug...or does it?

I knew there was another from the 9XXX series that supposedly worked on older boards. They either mis-typed or I did...shame on me for not checking first. *grin*

My 9500 Pro does have the extra floppy-style power connector, and I have it by itself on the dedicated rail off the PS.

Any suggestions?

Tom's tested the 9700 Pro on boards all the way back to socket 7 (VIA MVP3 chipset with AGP2x support).
