Check out this $100 incentive that ATI is offering. Its tied to crossfire but im thinking that R520 and Crossfire will launch at the same time. I may be reading to much into the offer, but something about the way they are doing it seems strange to me.

Doesn't it only apply for the X800 and X850, though?

But yea, I think it would be nice for the r520 to launch with Crossfire. It would definately be a big entrance by ATI, maybe one they need.

I guess we'll just have to wait it out.

I mean, if they did launch the r520 with Crossfire, then nobody, whatsoever, would buy the x800 or x850 as a multi-gpu solution. So ATI would kinda be shooting themselves in the foot by all the marketing their specificly doing for Crossfire with the Radeon x800 and x850. But then again, maybe they had always intended Crossfire with the r520, but needed a test product to show how capable it was as a multi-gpu solution...

I guess only time will tell ;)

Yeah only the x800 and x850 will have a CrossFire edition, but you can match them with many different card(the slave doesnt need to be CrossFire ready)

Try reading between the lines.

Upgrade your PC today with any ATI CrossFire Ready graphics card and you can save $100.00 USD off your future purchase of a Radeon X800 or Radeon X850 CrossFire Edition card.
Buy a CrossFire Edition graphics card by September 29th 2005
Do you see it now? I would spell it out, but then you would be mad at me for taking the fun out of it

R520 is ready to launch, IMO.

lol, Yea, I agree with rx8.

I guess if you interpret the deal that way, then yeah, it might appear like the r520 will come after Sept. 29th, but really, that's no surprise. Or maybe the deal is just being over-analyzed...heh

It's good that you were observant, but you got some of us a little too excited :p

LOL!

Well at least he got more replies (and views) than <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=440435#440435" target="_new">when I first posted this</A>.

I tell you mang, it's all about the marketing!

Yes theres certainly speculation involved. Im afraid no naked women. Thanks for reminding me

If the cutoff date for the incentive is Sept 29 then that should mean that Crossfire will have been out for at least a month "I would think a month min." and I would say that would be in significant numbers. The second part of this marketing ploy is an incentive thats offered on certain 800 series cards. This ends in a few days. Aug 1st im betting the first few Crossfire editions will pop up here and there.

ATI has lost a pile of potential buyers already with NVIDIAs 7800. $600.00 is alot of money and most people that have bought the 7800 certainly cant just turn around and consider ATI. ATI is searching high and low for potential buyers and this incentive is proof of that. They are hoping to tap back in the the customer base that has some of the lower grade X800, PRO, XL...... This group of potential buyers is now considering buying another card that is crossfire ready and in the same class as their current catd card. With the incentive, they will now be more likely to consider stepping up to the 850 series either as a one card solution or going all out with Crossfire. There will even be a few that will buy one of the cheaper Crossfire cards the day they hit the market and then turn back around when R520 comes out and buy again.

As for why I put Crossfire and R520 at the same launch time "Or within a few weeks of each other" is simply because ATI needs a 1, 2 punch combo that will at least sting NVIDIA a tiny bit.

I will probably regret this, but I have been talking to someone that has come up with this kind of info in the past and the dude is correct 90% of the time. He says that the 32 pipe plan was either scraped or just pushed back for a second wave push.

Yea, I pretty much assumed that after hearing ATI was having major problems with yielding and getting all the pipes to work, that a 32 piped r520 was an unlikely chance.

But as to the r580 being 32 pipes, then that is a more feasible theory.

Or, of course, we could all be surprised! lol, only time will tell...

Dam your right, you posted this ages ago, and no replys thats strange.

Now only if ~ATI can give us: Fairys and little elfs running around my room with naked women lying on my bed when i switch my pc on! erm leave the fairys/elfs out

<font color=purple> Dont expect Miracles humans made them. </font color=purple>

Mark my words (with invisible ink please), it's going to a single pipeline design, wide as hell unified and with many loops running at 4ghz.

I disagree with this "ATI has lost a pile of potential buyers already with NVIDIAs 7800."

How many average joe users actually but $600 videocards ?
They out number us in the market!

The mass market is the Mainstream cards not highend.

The problem for ATI is that the 7800GTX is already down to $500. They'll have to be under $600 at launch unless they're alot better than the GTX. Also Nvidia will have the 7800GT out before and will also cost them some sales. Having said that they'll be have alot of loyal ATI users willing to buy the 520 the day it comes out. The real battle will be in the mid and low range cards.
