My Powercolour 9800 Pro has died, after just more than a year!
So, I'm now after a new AGP card to go with my P4 2.8 & 1gig of DDR400 RAM.
The thing I can't work out is, is it really worth buying a GeForce 6600 GT. In some bench marks it's not that much better than a 9800 Pro. The Pro I had before was the 128MB version. I could afford a 256MB version now. I heard you can flash the Pro to an XT too, which is a step above the 6600 GT. Can you mess with a 6600GT?
I can't afford a 6800 or an X800 so that's why I'm debating the few models mentioned.
The card is for games, BF2 mainly at the moment.
I know you are all sick of graphics card questions but I'm tight as @rseholes & really want to get the best I can for my money.
Yes, threre is a 9800 XT, as well as an x700 XT. The x700XT I believe is ATI's main competitor right now with the 6600. The x700 XT actually seems to be lower in price than the 6600, and performs quite similiarly, if not arguably better, based on the benchmarks I've seen. So you may want to check it out.
Also, keep in mind, though, that the 6600 comes with Shader Model v3, opposed to the x700XT. But I guess it all depends on when you'll next upgrade, as well.
