Which GPU do you think is better and why? Most people seem to be buying a 6800GT even though this review (http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050705/index.html)shows the x800 XL beats the 6800GT in almost every benchmark. It also seems that the 6800GT only supports Open GL 1.5 as opposed to the ATi card supporting Open GL 2.0.

Nah, I've definately seen my share of people raving the x800XL. ;)

It is a great card, as you see by the benchmarks, and I would recommend it. They both compare in price, as I'm seeing on Newegg, but the 6800GT has higher over-clocking capabilities, which is why a lot of people are attracted to it. Features such as Shader Model version 3 are in the 6800 GT, as opposed to Shader Model 2 in the x800XL. Personally, that affects my desicion, but I'll leave it up to you.

But from what I hear about the x800XL, it actually is an excellent card, especially when compared to the x800XT and the x850 in terms of price/performance ratio.

Oh sure, there's plenty of peps going for an X800 XL but from what I've seen the majority seems to go for the 6800GT.

That's the kind of info I was hoping to get from this post!

a moot point raelly. its a case of the ring around the rosies. unless youre religious about your hardware and branding, i wont worry how that goes cuz ultimately its a choice everyones gonna make for a decision to buy...just remember, as how it really paid, and still pays to google, bottomline's to tailor to what fits.

It depends on whether it's PCI-e or AGP. AGP they are currently priced the about the same (online in USA). SO take your pick. But in PCI-e, the X800XL is still easily cheaper. IMO, SM3 and SLI capabilities are not worth the extra money, so the X800XL is a better buy. Basically, the cards are so close you have to look at the games you want to play. If it's too close to call, go for best price.
