Came across this from ati's clearance store. Comes with a 3 yr warranty. What do you guys think? it's in pre-order, so I know it might not get shipped in the end...

Outstanding deal! You can't touch that for the price. Newegg refurb would be alot more money and have a 15 day warranty only.

EDIT: Just to show how good a deal I think it was, within 5 minutes after posting before, I preordered one myself.

Oops, should have mentioned this before. Code 1010 I believe for 10% or 5% off from that price. I got 5, but some guys bfore reported 10.

I tried a bunch of codes but don't remember which one worked. I only got 5% off, which didn't quite make up for shipping. It would have been nice, but I couldn't find a free shipping coupon if there is one. Total shipped was $233.16 for me. Great deal; The 3 year ATI warranty pushed me over the edge.

The weird thing is having a preorder on refurbished cards. I mean, are the repaired and ready or not? Odd.

Delivery date says 3-4 weeks. Just a thought, but is there any chance they are going to have a new release (R520) in 3-4 weeks, so they are taking preorderes on these? Probably not, but thought just hit me. Doesn't matter as there won't be a sub $250 card that can touch this for a long time.

It is certainly strange from that point of view. Instead of when will they be in stock, it's like when will you guys finish fixing mine?
When it was released IIRC this card was almost impossible to get, and then only very expensively at the time.
My guess is some retailers got these returned and now will get a 520 from ATI in return; as it is pretty hard to find x800 xtpe BBA's. Don't know really.
What matters is that I will be getting a card that'll last me for a long time, as my ti4600 started feeling old with GTA:SA.

That is half what I paid for mine little over a year ago.
I ordered my XT800XT-PE in June for $469
Great card it is.

I understand that unless something happens between now and Sept 1st that ATI is building up stock and plans to release R520 then. Regardless you got a great deal on this card and I would have also if they would have had them in PCIexpress.

Now, does anyone have any experience with ATI's refurbs? good or bad?
August 7, 2005 7:42:55 PM

Not personally, but plenty of good experience with ATI and never had one fail, yet. Currently have this very card, bought over a year ago...

I have never bought a refurb from ATI. They used to have a great RMA service(preshipped cards like the HDD companies), but I haven't needed to rma one to them in well over a year. I've heard some complaints they are slow, but I trust ATI themselves more than I would their partners.

I am curious if it is three years from our purchase, or just extending the original warranty so it will be 3 years from the manufacturing date. Either way still great deal and still double the waranty of a new Sapphire.

Hmmm, never thought about that part on the warranty, I'd expect 3 years from the purchase date. Anyways, most dead video cards I've seen have given up on the first weeks, and only rarely after the first month. Unless it is in a unproperly ventilated case, or the user tried to squeeze too many mhz out of it.
If all goes fine it should make a nice birthday gift to self!

Cool, when did you order yours?
I did get that email, but no trk# yet...
August 16, 2005 2:34:08 AM

I ordered Aug 8th, and when I called to make sure they got my address right (I just moved) the rep told me it shipped out this morning at 11. However, the tracking page does not get updated very often I'm told. Id call them and ask about the status.

I just called. The story I got was a large quantity shipped from one of their locations to the packaging wharehouse at 11:00AM yesterday. From there they will be individually shipped out to us. Now maybe this is just for US customers and Canadians got it directly from the first location? So as far as I can tell, until they provide your own tracking number, there is no way of knowing for sure. The rep said they get a ton of calls on these, so they sent out the update email.

I see. That would explain why they told me they sent it out today when I called them this morning, when yesterday I got the 11am story. I'm just too impatient, plus I have 15 days to sell my brand new 6800 to my friend or RMA it to newegg.

PS. I have 4000 points now on BF2, I cant believe I am addicted to such a buggy game. They better fix it in 1.3

I figured that a large quantity would mean these cards are probably quirky or barely passing quality check fabs that normally would be considered a financial loss ;)

I figure half of them are customer RMA's of perfectly good cards because of user error. Think about how many retail chains sell BBA to folks who have no clue how to install it and the 30 day money back guarantee makes it easy to blame the card. Of course these noobs should buy more the low end cards with lots of memory though. These X800XTpe's are the cards that people bought to try out free for 30 days.

=P Patience is a virtue!

Just to let you know, these cards are blazing. Huge step up even from my unlocked 6800.

The ATI ones dont seem to be refurbs. From what I can gather from people posting at [H] who have talked to ATI, they all came from overseas surplus or something. I think we definately got the best deal with a BBA cars w/a 3 year warranty.
