Berzerk/Frenzy multigame, complete replacement ZPU

http://www-mtl.mit.edu/~mspaeth/pi [...] Frenzy.jpg

Runs self test fine, but my berzerk doesn't live at home, so I need
to take it on the road to test it fully. I still need to rewrite the
roms so the one set of dips works for both games

Replacement williams sound & speech pcb for pins & vids

http://www-mtl.mit.edu/~mspaeth/pi [...] Speech.jpg

Bench tested with defender & joust... Getting speech out of sinistar
requires closing too many switches simultaneously, so I need to test
it in a real game. Thsese boards have been kicking around for years,
They're a bit of a pain to build, so I don't know if I'll ever sell
these commercially.

Well, when I got my 2nd berzerk, I promised a multigame to the
guy I bought it from so he could continue to play both games in his
Frenzy, so..... :)

So... what's the point of this post? Upcoming releases of things that won't
be released?

They're called protoypes, troll.

I only ran 3 boards, and those 3 are spoken for. Once the design is fully
tested, and if there's enough interest, I'll do a production run.

The WMS sound boards are sale-able, but with what sound boards sell for
on ebay, it's not worth my time to source the parts and build up the boards,
so I'll continue to use them in my own games. If someone wants to pony up
and pay a reasonable price for a brand new board, they can.

Just a little update:

I've written some pretty nifty patches to berzerk to:
Eliminate the center coin slot since frenzy doesn't support it
Redo the coinage to give 1-15 credits/coin
Add freeplay (adds 2 credits if credits <2)
Collapse the other switch settings into the same dips as the coins

Patches for frenzy, to match the above for berzerk:
Remove the "counts per credit" option, and made it 1 count per credit
Reduce the "counts per coin" settings from 1-255 to 1-15
Collapse the other switch settings into the same dips as the coins
Moved freeplay on frenzy from 0 counts per credit to 0 counts per coin on 1.

I've tested the berzerk mods in mame, but not the frenzy mods yet.
None of the mods have been tested on real hardware (yet).

All told, this eliminates 3 dip switch packs, 3 TTL chips, and 3 sets of
pullup resistors from the design. This'll make it a little cheaper to
produce. Unfortunately it doesn't save PCB area, since that's pretty much
fixed by how the board set is assembled. :(

I would hardly call prOk a troll... On the other hand, your initial
post does say that these are a pain to make and you are unlikely to
make these commercially. It doesn't spell out specifically whether you
mean the WMS board or both boards.

Just an observation.

Wow. Does everyone around here have reading comprehension issues?

I thought my post was quite clear -- 2 separate headers, and 2 separate
descriptions.

As I've posted before I'm not willing to build up and sell brand new
williams sound boards for the prices at which used ones sell. Working
berzerk ZPUs have been fetching good money, however, and there seems
to be more than enouhg people interested in a multigame to build
up a run of boards.
