Hello,
I just purchaed a new Dell 8400 with XPMCE 2005,
Im not satisifed with the Dual TV tuner that was installed by Dell , it came
with one coax imput and two S-video imputs and 2 adapters to hookup
composite video (RCA) jacks to the S-Video imputs.. The adapters are junk,
as the weight of the cables will cause them to disconnect from the S-Video
Sockets. I wish Dell would be alittle more informative about the type of
hardware they install when you order a new computer.

I am looking at getting a Hauppage Dual TV tuner as it has 2 coax imputs.
http://www.hauppage.com/pages/products/data_pvr500mce.html
However they make two version of this card, NTSC and PAL, which is best? and
which one will work best with my Dell?

TIA,
Brad

First NTSC is the system used in the US and Canada where PAL is in Europe. I
believe that is correct. So depending on where you live you would choose the
version necessary. Now the 2 coax inputs are not both for TV but 1 is and
the other is for FM radio. However you can get a second input with the
following http://registration.hauppauge.com/webstore/hardware.asp#av_cable
which will work fine with the 8400. I'm using the 150 MCE version and it
works great. I was going to get the 500MCE until it was pointed out to me
that it only works for watching one channel and recording another with over
the air antennas or without a set top box. To do this with Satellite like
direct TV you will need the add on I listed above which wasn't available
when I purchased mine. I might still buy the 500 MCE as I don't have an
extra PCI slot unless I remove my modem but do have an extra slop for the
additional piece. I was going to just get 2 150MCE to do it until I ran out
of slots.

Thanks Joe for the info, glad you pointed that out to me about the coax
conections on the 500MCE.
At present I have one extra PCI slot, but I will have another one available
after I remove the modem card, upon I get hooked up to 3 mb DSL this week.

I would then recommend you get 2 150MCE instead of the 500. It is cheaper
with the same quality. You will need to set top boxes for it to work with
DirecTV though. Oh the FM radio is very good too depending on your sound
card I would guess. It does come with a wire FM antenna which is all I'm
using on mine with great reception in the Lexington area.

I have the USB2 version and have no problems at all with it.
