I am upgrading to a64 this week and I wanted to get a video card for my back up system.
shuttle an35n ultra
xp 2500 @ 3200 speeds
I was thinking of getting the HIS 9800 pro for 136.00 at newegg. Do you think that will be a good backup card for that system. It's right around my budget.

thanks

Great card for that, I have 2-9800 pro's in spare LAN gamers, and one I put that VGA Silencer on like the His ICeQ. Amazingly quiet. What games do you hope to play? A 6600GT would be a step up if you find one priced close.

Well I currently have a agp 6800gt that will go in the a64 combo. I just want a decent card in case something happens. can't be without computer or games for a couple of days. I remeber you telling someone else about this card some time ago that's why I checked it out. The games I play are far cry, half life 2 and the up coming fear. just want a decent back up card without breaking the bank.

Also what are the best cat's and to use the c.c.c. or not? The only ati card I have is a rage pro 128.
thanks Paul

at first I was looking at a 9600xt, but didn't think that would be enough. Now I'm thinking a 9800 pro won't be enough.Hmmm..... I already have a 6800gt. Don't really want to spend a boatload of cash on another card.
what to do?
Looking at newegg I see the 6600gt is only 20 bucks more. I guess i'll get that. Sure was looking to have an ati card though. Thanks

My feeling is a 9700 pro is about minimum now for a gaming machine as the 9600 series will reduce the settings and/or resolution to 800x600 in some games.

Not sure on Fear, but a 9800 pro can handle farcry at 1024x768 high no AA. HL2 it can play 1280x1024 Max no AA, although some folks may want to reduce that to 1024 and try AA.

A 6600GT is definately a step up as it equals or betters the 9800 pro in pretty much everything. Look at this comaprison.
