I have a computer which has WinXP Home SP2 and basically I removed a
virus/spyware that somehow managed to mess up the firewall settings. Right
now I can manually through registry turn on and off the firewall. However,
it is ALWAYS greyed out, the enable and disable are greyed out and I'm
unable to choose either. I know it is an option within the registry but I'm
having a damn hard time figuring out what it might be. Does anyone have any
clue?

the netsh command in SP2 can rebuild your Winsock. Open the command prompt and type: netsh winsock reset , then press ENTER.
