ATI R520 has sixteen pipelines?

Interesting. You can't believe everything you read at the inquirer, but this would explain why the pics of the R520 gpu's look identical in size to the current R420s...

Just saw it too!
What about the rumors of 512bit interface?
WOuld a 700-800mhz core slower mem with 512-bit could be a 7800gtx killer?

There must be something behin the delay. Hopefully its not just the process but some newer tech that was harder to implement then previously tought!

Come on ATI! we need some competition!

If ATI wants me to become an NIVIDA FANBOY, they are certainly pushing the correct buttons.

A FanBoi you will never be - you're too price/perf oriented.

I still don't know what kind of pipelines so I will reserve judgement for now. Although it's not looking too good on the surface if it NEEDs to crank to high speed to compete.

The fact that the G70 (GT or GTX) is limited to 16 pixel per clock cycle, means that in some applications it could be 1:1, however anything requiring stage dependancy or multiple passes would definitely favour the G70s.

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp <i>(or internët account)</i> ! - <A HREF="http://www.redgreen.com/" target="_new"><font color=green>RED </font color=green> <font color=red> GREEN</font color=red></A> GA to SK

The G80 is supposed to be launched in the spring or summer of '06, and the longer the R520 is delayed the further they'll push back the G80 IMO. Unless there's a nice coinciental launch opprtunity like UT2K7 or something similar.

if ATI paperlaunches this thing... could [-peep-] em
I doubt they'd bother. If they wanted to paperlaunch, they'd have done it already... the cards have been in production for some time now.

Honestly, I don't care if it's 16 pipelines, as long as it can up the ante the 7800 GTX has laid down.

Actually, I'd prefer it if it were a 16-pipe wundercard... if a 16-pipe R520 can take on the 24-pipe 7800, I mean, holy shiznit...

Imagine what the R580 with more pipes will do?

As long as it's close then ATI should get the dang card out. Nvidia has to be loving this knowing they've got until atleast October before any competition.

From a marketing standpoint they've already missed the back to school season, now there's no huge hurry to get cards out there until Thanksgiving.

If they miss Thanksgiving they're really off the ball though... then it'll be tough to fill the supply channel for christmas.

My guess is they're targeting a pre-thanksgiving megalaunch of Crossfire and the R520 with cards in stock. Then they're well established for the christmas season.
