Bob Roberts and the continuation of restoration

I think it's important for all of us to understand and perhaps come to
a realization that Bob Roberts may be done, at least for the short
term.
While the devastation of Hurricane Katrina could have been much worse,
once again New Orleans has dodged the bullet to a degree. When I
first tuned in on Saturday to Fox they were calling for the city to be
leveled and uninhabitable. Flattened by the once in a lifetime
hurricane and one of biblical proportions. While it's yet to be
revealed the damage and devastation to Bob's home, property and goods
it's important to understand the level of stress he is under; wanting
to get back home and assess the damage. The thoughts and prayers from
my family are with Bob and his.
While this may be a sensitive topic viewed by antagonists, this is not
an invitation for personal attack. I think this emphasises the
importance of redundancy in the industry or ingenuity of the human
spirit. And a rebuke towards the bickering and malcontent of what
this hobby has become. It's time to come together.
If it turns out that Bob may face a total loss in materials, just
please keep in mind that I have managed over the last 5 years to be
able to conduct restorations without Bob's help and assistance. There
are other sources out there that can be taken advantage of and
utilized. This isn't to say that there isn't any exerted effort on
your part.
As you probably all know, it's through a concerted effort by all that
were able to maintain and manage our collections. Through helpfulness
and cooperation were able to restore alot of products.
The talents of Richard Cross, Alex Yeckley, Mark Spaeth, Darin Jacobs,
Brian Jones, Mark Hooks, Bob Langelius, Andre Chromey and many others
stand to offset the losses of any one of us. Through the collective
we can persevere.
A devastating loss by Bob Roberts has the potential to effect the
devastation of many projects. But keep in mind that one person has
gone 4 years without the resources of Bob Roberts. Keep that in mind
when you consider whether your project can be completed and fully
restored.
God Bless Louisiana and all of us during this dire event.

It's been forever since I ordered from Bob -- ever since I got sick of
fixing monitors, and stopped buying piles of capkits and flys :)

Bob's been through hurricanes before, and I'm sure he'll come out
of this one on top too. Pity that his wife couldn't convince him
to move up the hurricane-free new england... heh.

I didn't see anyone saying that the arcade restoration world was going
to end if his business failed. They were just hoping he was OK because
from all accounts he's a genuinely good guy who knows how to take care
of his customers.

Your post kind of creeped me out. You seemed to pretend you care, but
the vibe I get is that you don't.

Whatever.

humm... so what's your point? Bob gets killed or whiped out and life goes
on...

ok... it probably will... but you're posting sounds a bit heartless no
matter how "nicely" you worded it.

IMO a post like that was probably not worth posting, it's one of those that
are only going to bite you in the ass.

There is the key to how you do business - "taken advantage of" -

Even though you like to use big words, try using the small ones correctly -
it should read AFFECT not effect

Effect is actually used correctly in the quoted sentence, where it means (as
a verb transitive) "cause to occur" or "bring about."

Hey now! I'm not exactly unsuspecting after reading the rest of the
thread. My mother in law has that same habit of knowing exactly the
wrong thing to say while trying to offer comfort.

Wait, could this horror movie analogy be leading up to the scariest
twist ending ever?

Dude! What? You sure do get creeped out alot. Bob and I's business
dealings are all just a thing of the past. Water under the bridge.
At your behest I shall end this thread. Just know by doing this I'm
letting others get the last word in. And that smarts. But for you
Tim, anything.

Inappropriate thing to say at an inappropriate time. I am saddened
that Bob is having to go through this right now and hope that he and
his loved ones make it through okay. In the short time I've dealt with
him he has been true, thorough and trusting.

Totally agree with Zap. My thoughts go out to Bob. I really hope that
he, his family, and his home are safe. Bob's been my favorite person
to work with in this hobby, and without him, the majority of my
machines would not be alive today. Shoot, he's one of the reasons I
came to enjoy the hobby so much. He's been nothing but helpful,
trusting, and extremely reliable every single time I've done business
with him.

I keep checking his site hoping there's an update post saying he and
the family are okay. Gretna looks to be a tad farther inland from New
Orleans, but I've seen several news captions of flooding and destroyed
buildings there, too :(

Keeping my fingers crossed for them,
Ben

Zinfer is pooh, period.

His sole reason for posting was to take a back handed stab at Bob. That
is the only reason for it whether he is man enough to admit it or not.

It's Zinfer's fault that he was on the bad trader list, not Bob's. But
obviously Zinfer still feels some ill will about the situation. Maybe
it's just because Bob refuses to deal with him now or won't ship an
order until he has Zinfer's money in hand first. I definitely couldn't
blame him for either.

Rod,

You should have left your thoughts at what I've snipped your post to
above.

If you had to add anythingabout Bob, you should (we all should) be
saying that now is the time to be there for him. He's been there for a
lot of us and it's time to return the favor to him if he needs help.
Given his location, he most surely will need it.

If need be, I would gladly give to a Help Bob fund rather than the Red
Cross.. Seriously, at least I know my $$ would do someone I know and
respect some good and help them in this tragedy. I'm not knocking the Red
Cross by any means, I'd rather just help someone I know. Too bad he doesn't
take paypal..
