More Information

I'm currently running this computer :
Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
MSI 865PE Neo2-PS (MS-6728 v2.0) (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio)
512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) (soon to be upgraded to 1GB OCZ Performance)
ATI Radeon 9600 XT (RV360)
200GB S-ATA drive

My question is, I plan on upgrading my videocard and was wondering if my comp would be good enough to run a x800XT/x800PRO/x800XL video card with the memory I currently own and if I would see even more improvement after putting 1 gig in it

If it's the microcode update revision then it's B
else it's written Prescott C0

Buy the X800XL. With the OCZ.

Hey boss, I have the X800 XT and 6800 GT as well as the X800 XL, and the XL seems like a real dog in comparison.

I also have a 2GHz A64 and a 3GHz P4 Prescott, the P4 seems like a real dog in comparison.

In fact, if I wanted to build a slow, expensive system, it would have to be with the P4 and XL.

I've read that about the X800XL. Does not OC very well. Plus it's 16 pipes. AMD does kick Intel's butt in Gaming.

What about the power supply? if i'm running a standard 450W PSY will that be enough for a x800xl?

Probably, but you'll want a better PSU when you can afford it.

Generic PSUs crash, suck, and die.

The thing about the GT/XL comparison is that you can oc them both the GT more than the XL, and the areas that the GT excels in remain the same and the areas the XL excel in are the same. You have to OC to beyone Ultra levels for a GT to EQUAL an XL in the areas it lacks, and you have OC an XL to XT level to match a GT in the areas it excels in, and both cards then have their overclockability to once again return to normal. The 'poor' XL overclocking results are only dissapointing on the surface, and for anyone who only uses 3Dmark. In the games the dominance remain where they were prior to OC'ing.

People make it sound like it's a 3 year old card where 10mhz on the core and memory is a risky idea. It's far from that bad. The Ultra and XTPE don't OC well either, but you don't see much mention of that.

The only time I'd owrry about it is if you're trying to break some records with exotic cooling, because there there's no room for sure. But for the person asking here, I doubt thatt's a major concern.

Speaking of which, there's a new Xbit test that sheds light on the games that play best on each. I'd pick whichever matches the games I play;
