I previously had an Asus GeFore Ti4600, and now bought a Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT.
I can not play any video clips at all, avi,mpg or mov. I have tried through Windows Media Player, quicktime and DivX Player. What happens is I open a video file, the player will load but then just starts seizing my computer and lagging it extremely bad and I can ctrl alt del and end the process and computer is fine again. I am using Nvidia's latest Drivers. Any suggestions? Could not sufficient power be a problem? I have a 450w power supply. Running 2 HDs, 1 CD-rom, 3 case fans and my CPU fan.
I can switch back to my old card and videos will play fine.

Thanks

You should be able to check the video card temperature through the driver. To check right click on desktop, click properties, then the settings tab, then advanced button, and click on the driver tab. It should say on the side, temperature or something along those lines. See what the temps are. Also, what is your CPU temps? Make sure DirectX is updated. To see if its a power issue, try running a game. That would most likely require even more power than playing a movie back. If the game is smooth, its not a power issue. Also, I see on Gigabyte's website, it looks like your card has an auxilary power connector. Did you remember to plug that in?
