I have a P4 2.4 ghz 512 Rimm memory PC800, motherboard is a Lexington 2 2.4/533mhz.

Not sure if this motherboard supports PCI express but it looks like I have a few of those white connectors under my AGP where my card sits now. Any help on that would be great. I don't want to get a card that is going to be an overkill for the specs I have now. The only thing I will probably upgrade is my memory to a gig.

Looking at some cards prices the 6800GT seems to still be in the 300's which is probably more than I wanted to spend. But some of the newer cards are not much more but PCI and not sure if I can even use them.

Anyway before I lose some peoples interest from me rambling on. Which would be a good card for my specs I have now?

It's not going to support PCI-e, which is different than PCI. In AGP I'd look at the $100-$150 cards as beyond that the rest of the system doen't justify it. A GF6600GT AGP, Radeon 9800 pro, or Radeon 9700 pro. (best/most expensive to worst/least expensive)

make sure your not confusing PCI slots with a PCI express slot. Your mainboard probably only supports AGP.

I pretty much have those same specs and im using a 9800 Pro now and that runs pretty well. Im gonna upgrade the vid card tho after ATI releases their new cards so im not paying so much for an x850 or whatever.

I have very little experience with nVidia cards so i cant help you there but im sure that card will be a fine addition to your computer

The 6600GT is more in my price range but I noticed there are alot of different manufactures and price ranges. Which would be the one to go with and also 128 or 256?

Need to last at least 2 more yrs then Ill upgrade to a new pc and give the kid this one.

I heard that the xfx one now has some heating issues so any help would be great.

I suggest the 6600GT. For manufactures, I always liked MSI as they overclock good but the prices are higher on them. Asus is said to be quite good too. In terms of the 6800GT, they have been discontinued for the AGP and the prices will probably not go much lower. I just bought one myself and i heaved out quite a bit for it. The 6600GT would only need to have 128 so there is no need to pay extra for the 256

Reading some info on the 6600GT and the EVGA model says a min of 350 watts power. My pc is only 250 is this a problem?

Holy crap, get a better power supply for sure.

A nice name brand 350+ watt job, or a generic 500 watter should do the trick (but not as well as a name brand 350w power supply).
