Hello All,
We would like to set up a wireless network in our small offices.
The wireless network will include a cable modem and must allow a few
notebooks in offices to get to the internet.
It must also allow internet access for 4 PCs from a wired network
(connected via 8 port switch) in one of the offices.
Except for the 4 wired PCs, other computers connected to the wireless
network should not be able to get to the wired network or eachother
(The "eachother" can be XPs file sharing disabled, the wireless to
wired path must be blocked).
The wired computers must remain on speaking terms. We will probably
need a VPN from the internet to the wired network PCs at some time.
Will the following work?
In the outer office ...
Cable Modem
|
Linksys BEFW11S4
4 or so notebooks may connect wireless to BEFW11S4 via PC wireless
cards.
1 or 2 PCs may connect wirelessly or wired to the BEFW11S4
In the one office with 4 PC wired network on switch.
The intention is to have the WET11 connect to the BEFW11S4 wirelessly
to provide internet access for the 4 PCs.
Will this work. Linksys Tech says the BEFW11S4 does not bridge. So I
would need a WAP11 connected to the BEFW11S4 or use a BEFSR41
non-wireless cable router with a WAP11.
Also, would the WET11 prevent outsiders from getting to the one office
wired network. (Eventually would it allow a VPN through?)
Are there better choices than Linksys? DLink for example. In my
searching I saw unfavorable opinions of Linksys stuff - lockups, poor
docs...
