My relatively new Sony (3GHz, 1GB RAM) uses Intel's GMA 900 Integrated Graphics. I do no gaming but lots of video editing. I'd like a dedicated graphics card using the PCI express slot that's available so that I can use some of Adobe Premier Elements features that the 900 can't handle. Also a "TV out" to fully utilize Media Center Edition capabilities. But... Power supply of 305W seems to limit me to 2 year old cards that may not be an improvement (geForce PCX 5750, for example). Should I forget it?

Well, a new graphics card will not improve the video rendering process. It will provide more features that the integrated graphics chip can't, but it will not make video rendering any faster. Since you're not a gamer, I would suggest a 6600GT PCI-Express card. They are relatively cheap, provide good performance, and doesn't require a lot of power. I am pretty sure the 6600GT's only require a 350 watt PSU. Unless you are running 3 hard drives or something out of the ordinary, the power supply should not be an issue.

Yes, I have a similar Sony here. You could put an AIW X600 Pro in the thing and ditch the factory TV tuner. Really, the AIW X600 Pro has the same front panel connector on it. So does the AIW X800 XL, but that's too much card for your system.

Actually, the X600 is a PCI-Express version of the 9600, it performs very well. The 6600GT is also a great card. And you don't "need" an AIW card, you can keep your Sony tuner card.

Of course by adding an AIW, you could record one show while watching another.

a readeon all in one card is better for you as you want the tv outs and stuff, an 6600GT is more for gaming as it only have DVI, VGA (AGP version only i belive, the PCIE ver gets 2x DVI) and a S-video output, while the AIW have lots more and i belive can record tv

well my cpu can go to 2.65GHZ but due to loudness of the fan i'm running it at 2.4GHZ and my GPU is 354/1100 @ 6V and 75C all this is from rivatuner i need to get some info on GPU bios flash and dangers of bios flash and how to fix, and how high could it go w/o flash and w flash

i tried 375/1100 but it just throttles me down to 354 so i'm assuming that this is the highest i could go or that since i'm not gaming there is no need for more clocks?

I installed the 6600gt and it does what I need. thanks for the help and advice. My only complaints are the fan is too noisy and I can't seem to configure the component video to look right when I output to TV. The S-video looks OK.
