so i bought 2 of these as they were 99p from my local home bargains, thinking i could just use the usb cable for an extension, one for the odd time i use a flash drive or maybe external hdd for a few seconds anyway i plugged them in and the flash drive says cant be recognized and the hdd just makes a loud buzzing, that scared me so i unplugged them, plugged my flash and hdd directly to MB and there fine

was my plan a waste of time? there's me thinking i was being smart lol

heres the exact set

thanks but that doesnt really help, i checked and the voltage and ground are the correct polarity, maybe the data is the other way round?

i even emailed a seller, selling the same and he said you can use it without the connectors, i did try the usb-b on my printer with the cable and it worked fine, completely confussed by this.......

Which end did you connect the hard disk to and how? The USB mini end would only fit a caddy that holds a 2.5" hard disk, or a mobile phone or similar.

but the flash drive does light up, it just says on win7 that it has a malfunction, so i unplugged the cable from the mb and plugged the flash drive back into the mb without the cable and it works............ :S

i even have 2 cables and both do the same

hmm, well i know the polarity is correct for the volts so im using one for a extension on my xperia s charger, ( that was the main reason i bought one because the sony one supplied is so short, it needs an extension )

maybe these arnt man enough for flash drives etc.... god knows

im just pleased the 5v polarity is correct as i really thought id blown my external hdd up......:(

It looks very flimsy compared to the thickness of the cable on my caddies and a fraction of the bulk of the USB cable from a motherboard to the ports in a PC. It look even thinner than the cable for my Android.
