Leaked Beta drivers increase performance of 7800`s

(From theinquirer)Some leaked 81 series beta drivers increase performance of the 7800 by atleast 600 points on 3dmark05 and also all games get a healthy increase in FPS, the release of the new drivers are for the launch of the new ati cards, just to put a downer on ati`s parade.

Well if you can call this really really late release a parade, we will see.

As siad in the inquirer nvidia has always cut the performance back on the 7800 cards just to give ati a false sense of security.

Dirty tactics i like, nvidia certanly outsmarted ATI this time.

I heard that this was for dual-core systems and that the driver 'cheated' by offloading some of the vertex calculations onto the other core. No idea how true this is.

But I don't think drivers are going to detract from ATi's release, especially since their performance is already being leaked. They needed to LEAK on launch day, and even then I doubt it'd do much to the fanfare.

I did mention a while back that these staggered releases will result in more fud and 'announcements' around launches to try and limit impact of not having products to launch. Both sides will do it, ATi already did their 'launch a feature or performance udpate' thing during both the G70 and GT launches.

We'll see, but I doubt 600 points in 3Dmk05 is much of a boost to completely offset the product expectation.

As for dirty tactics, hopefully they aren't the floptimization kind.

Seems pretty damn smart to me but Nvidia should've waited to "leak" them the day of the 520 launch.

yes they should have waited but even a little comotion puts a dent in the launch even if it is early, but then again ati shot themselves in the foot because of the delay.
