How long will my 6800GT last?

I'm in the process of building a new company and am stuck at the crossroads.

Should I sell my BFG 6800GT AGP and build a PCI-E based system? Considering I paid a pretty penny for it last year, the prices are dropping, and everyone is trying to dump them, it would seem like a waste to sell it for $300

How long do you think I can hold onto this card if I build an AGP based system...possibly an AMD 3800+ with 2GB dual channel DDR....

More about : long 6800gt

Who can say? The Radeon 9700 PRO is still a usable card, and it was released years ago. then again, it was ahead of it's time.

I'd expect 2 more years of usability out of the 6800GT. Of course, around the end of that you'll have to turn off AA and some features newer games will have like HDR, etc. But it'll still be playable.

If you upgrade to a socket 939 Nforce3 mobo, you'll have a nice AGP system, and you can keep your CPU if you migrate to a PCI-E mobo/videocard later.

disagree... the 6800gt setup is still top notch as of now, don't upgrade for a while (a year or two). if you dump that system, get a 7800gtx, you'll waste a crap load of money that apparently i would think be better spent on hot dogs

Hmm, how about a cheap Asrock Uli mobo that supports S939 Athlon 64's, your 6800GT for now, and a PCi-e card later when you want to upgrade? These mobos exist and are cheap. That's what I'd do if if I were in your shoes. Something to think about anyway.
