I am a student who needs some of the XP functionality to set up a
server, etc... Some of the functions that aren't in XP but not XP Pro.

Is it likely that the featuers I want that I have in XP Pro are not
available in MCE?

Out of curiousity, what do you mean by "server". My guess is file
server, and XP Pro ought to be more than enough. Chances are, everything
you want from XP Pro will be found in MCE (there's been threads alluding
to the fact that MCE is based on XP Pro). If you want to setup a real
server, I'd suggest looking into Linux for security, stability, etc.
(not to mention it's free). Some great versions of Linux which target
servers are CentOS and White Hat Enterprise Linux (both based on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux).

MCE cannot join a domain.

*Oh yes it can*.
It can only do this if you specify the domain when *installing* MCE,
however, not afterwards - so if you've got a prebuilt MCE machine this
doesn't really help you.
Presumably MS realised there was bog-all market for MCE home and MCE
pro and so produced a single build.
