Hello,
I want to upgrade my graphics card. Here are my current system specs:
Dell Dimension 8300 P4 @ 2.6 Ghz
800 Mhz FSB with Hyper Threading
1.5 Ghz Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400Mhz
Radeon 9800 128MB*
I upgraded the PSU to 425 watts
*I don't know if I have AGP 2x, 4x, or 8x (how do I find that out?)
This system is only about 2 years old.

So, my question is what would the max graphics card that my system should be able to fully utilize? The new ATI X1600? if not that the X850 . I am willing to wait and looking to spend @ $300.

If you have a 9800, then it's AGP not PCI-e. So forget the new X1800 line or 7800 line as they are PCI-e only. If you have dual channel memory, I'd expect it is an AGP 8X mobo, but either way it's compatible with 4X/8X cards so any high end AGP would work. Best AGP card made is the X850XTpe. I'd look for a X800XL, 6800GT, X800XT, or X850XT, which range from as low as $240 for the XL to almost $400 for the top of the line X850XTpe.

What Pauldh said. You want the new vid cards from ATI. You need new Mobo.

The best "bang for the buck" for your system is the ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT. The reason is, the All-In-Wonder is actually CHEAPER than the standard X800 XT, or any AGP version of the X850 XT. It only cost $320.

Of course you probably won't use the TV features, but the card still performs great, and best of all, it's CHEAPER.

People can't seem to get a grasp of the concept of CHEAPER PERFORMANCE, so I'll explain further if needed!
