For those here who haven't kept up with Sporting Lisbon's latest
wunderkind, he debuted for Portugal's National squad last night in the
2-0 victory over Egypt. He is 18 years old and led Sporting to the UEFA
Cup final last season.

I would not be the least bit surprised if he takes Maniche's spot in
Portugal's team in the World Cup 2006.

In my estimation this kid is the least hyped yet is also the best young
player in the world, consistency is the key word in describing him as
he consistently plays good game after good game.

My own:

Ricardo/Quim

Miguel Jorge Andrade Ricardo Carvalho Paulo Ferreira

Maniche João Moutinho

Figo/Quaresma Ronaldo
Deco

Pauleta/Postiga

Ricardo has played more often but IMHO Quim is better and a good season
with Benfica in 05/06 could well nudge him into Ricardo's spot.

In order to bring Miguel into the line-up as right-back Scolari has
adapted Paulo Ferreira to left-back although Marco Caneira remains a
possibility for that role

Andrade and Carvalho are untouchables, especially Carvalho although
Meira could be an option for Andrade.

I think Maniche should play, will he? I don't know.

Will Moutinho be good enough to remove Costinha? Quite possibly, yes.

Will Custódio be better than Costinha? Why not?

Moutinho is better than Manuel Fernandes who has stagnated a bit in the
last season.

> Leaving Petit on the bench...

Petit is a pure game destroyer, he just fouls everything in sight and
every team needs a goon for the dirty work in the defensive midfield
that's why many play with 2 DMs, a game destroyer and a more creative
DM.

maybe Fernando Meira has could replace
> M.Fernandes in the midfield.. giving more strenght and presence.

Fernandes isn't ready to be put inthe same lot as Maniche, Costinha but
Moutinho and possibly Custódio are.

But a real

Ronaldo played as a striker for Sporting Lisbon's youth squads before
reaching the senior squad where he was adapted to the winger role.

Moreira will not figure into the keeper discussion for WC 2006, he'll
be there IMO but not to play, time will come for the portuguese
Cassilas.

Valente has problems with Porto management, they want him to quit the
NT and this might force him out of the club, he's almost 3 and Scolari
need's to find new options like Caneira, Ribeiro, Basto, Miguelito,
Valdir, etc.

No way, only a fool would let 2 kids alone in it's midfield, there
needs to be a mix of youth and maturity in there and come 2006 Moutinho
will be 19 and Fernandes 20, it's toomuch pressure on 2 kids,
especially Manuel Fernandes wh IMHO is nowhere near ready for that.
Plus both are creative midfielders with Moutinho being in the Andrea
Pirlo mold so they can't play together they need a physically stronger
DM at their side in the Costinha, Custódio type.

No question, Deco will play and Hugo Viana and João Alves are also
possibilities especially Hugo.

No way does Simão play, Figo was quite slow versus Egypt but when in
shape he will play. Ronaldo will play no matter what but Figo will also
play unless Ricardo Quaresma evolves quite a bit tactically inthe
coming season and steal Figo's spot.

Ronaldo, Figo and Quaresma will all fight for the winger spot and after
them there's Boa Morte who IMO is also ahead of Simão, frankly in my
consideration even Sérgio Conceição at this stage is still better
than Simão who I doubt will even be in the squad unless he performs
much better tha he has in the past 2 seasons. And let's wait and see if
this new kid Nani doesn't take his spot.

The way things are going I would not be the least bit surprised if
Postiga takes Pauletas role but for a coach like Scolari who likes to
play with a 4-2-3-1 I can't see Postiga in the tactical system, a
system with only 1 striker can't affor having a striker with postiga's
caractheristics, Pauleta is taller, stronger, better heading. Postiga
would only fit in a 2 striker system IMHO.

As for the 3 strikers being called up I would say pauleta, Postiga and
in my opinion why not joão Tomás as 3rd choice.

I would say comparing him to Makelele is more appropriate but still
premature.

> Joao Moutinho ( just in the likes of PAULO SOUSA 100 % CLASS ACT )

I think he reminds me more of Pirlo to be honest, especially with his
creativity, vision, passing and freekicks.

Great First Choice. We can improve if we can get a another good clinical
striker

Manuel Fernandes (benfica wonderkid the next Patrick VIEIRA)
Joao Moutinho ( just in the likes of PAULO SOUSA 100 % CLASS ACT )
