7800Ultra(GTX) 512MB-New King?

The inquirer says that the soon to come 7800 with 512MB of ram will be the new king. They feel that the card will beat the X1800 XT and by a substantial margin. Ive been waiting on R520 for a long time, I will probably just say to HELL with a new video card and stick with this X700 PRO. Im to lazy to link!

Well the reason is they're hearing Nvidia is also going to ramp the card clocks to atleast 500mhz and use the new Samsung memory. Have to wait and see but IF Nvidia gets these out about the same time as the X1800XT then ATI is in big trouble.

Sure it does. It is rumored to run at 1800mhz(900ddr).
So any performance addict would DROOL over this.

I aint signing nothing!!!

The X1800 series supports up to 1GB memory so it'll be better.

1024MB > 512MB

Ati Wins!

Seriously, alot depends on when these hit store shelves. If this isn't until the new year, then it will have to contend with the potential launch of the R580 everyone was yammering about a few weeks ago.

Personally I see this as a delay tactic for people thinking of buying an XT. Why else would the leaks be reaching us now, just prior to the XTs launch and the Holiday shopping season.

If nV can get product to the stores before mid-Nov then they'll definitely capture the majority of high-end X-mas buyers if ATi's not ready for something else (which I doubt they can launch another product before Xmas).

This could get very interesting though since such a high initial speed increase and such terrific memory will definitely help move the GF7800 ahead on most counts.

The real question is how much this speed increase will benifit with there still only being 16 ROPs. I would expect it to be pretty awesome in games like F.E.A.R. and others that make heavy use of shadows (likley also good with HDR).

It's not a rumour it's Samsung's spec. Rumour would be what it overclocks from there.

I totally agree with what you siad, it seems VERY strange this bit of news is being released.

i would not bank on ati releasing a super dooper 1gb card just yet, so king of the hill will go to nvidia probably, and it will deff beat a X1800XT, and so this will taint the the already so so delayed X1800XT.

So Nvidia`s ULTRA lives on!

Why are you using the x700? What happened to the x800xl?

At the time I had collected over 3k in parts that were just sitting around. One of our forum members now owns the card. I also had just purchased the 7800 so I really didnt need it. The 7800 didnt like my plasma so I returned it. Now its me and this slow X700 Pro. For a 700 Pro its fast but still not what the XL was capable of doing.

This is great news! Either a 1GB version of 1800XT will come, or ATI will be forced into pushing R580 ahead of schedule. It's pretty much ready anyways. Then again, I dunno if ATI minds being behind...

(To the title) - First off, this is the Geforce 7800GTX 512MB, *not* the 7800 Ultra. In-accurately naming this product will result in unnessisary confusion.

I don't forsee ATI including 1024MB vesrions of their x1800XT. Even if they did, the added 512MB would be pointless. Just like having 4GB of Ram when right now you don't need more than 2GB.

I believe the Geforce 7800GTX 512MB will be announced this month, with product launch this month, as well. According to my sources, r580 will be announced March 2006 with launch in April/May 2006.

Just like the leaked nV Driver notes a week before Oct. 5th.

As if having 2 'GTX' models at far far different speeds won't? C'mon we all know that the only reason this might not (still not confirmed outside of the InQ) be called the Ultra is that it would give credence to the rumours they denied (just like calling the NV48 the G70).

Yep, just like so many other things. Both do it, and we expected it all along. Really a bi-product of staggered launches. Gotta say something to ensure not all the news is about one company.

Either way, it should be good for the consumer.

Ive been running this chip over 4.6Ghz 24/7 for a long time. I usually fold no higher than 4.6Ghz but run many of my other apps at 4.8Ghz. Of course I still run benchmarks over 5Ghz. I also have a 570J thats been running as long as the 3.73EE

Its hard to kill these chips, your much more likely to kill the mobo.

Excuse me for slandering Nvidia by not getting the title correct. As to unecessary confusion, well... this is THGC and from a purely clinical point of view, I would say........

Uhhh... What was I talking about?

Thanks Kinney!
