Check the obivuse: Volume controls and default outputs in the sounds
menu in the controle panle, make sure every thing is pluged in
correctly.

The Less obviuse: Open devicemanager and see if tehre are any errors
with the sound card or any hadware device.

If all else fails..........try Start, Help, in the search window type
'sounds troubleshoot' (without the quotes). This will take you to the
Windows troubleshooter, just follow the steps.
Heirloom, old and it really works

Where did my sounds go?
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

Once I watched a moive using power DVD and when I was done I hit mute in the
power dvd program as I exited by accident,it muted the whole system even
when the program was closed,it took me a little while to figure it out
everything else was normal so check everything, it very well could be
something simple.
