Defrag in ME

Hi folks,

I was supposed to install a DSL modem for someone and I did. I also noticed that her computer was running excessively slow. It'd take about 5 minutes to boot. I saw as soon as I got to the desktop that she's got all these icons on the tray. I know how to correct that. I went to do scandisk and it took forever. When I went to defrag, I couldn't find the shortcut in system tools. How do I go about getting it to Defrag? Is there even a defrag mode in ME? I don't use the OS so help me please.

More about defrag
  1. It should be the same as win98. Go into My Computer, right click the drive, then click on properties. Under the tools tab, you should see an option to defrag.

  5. I suggest you use VoptXP, it's far better for defragging than MS's own proprietary defragger.

I also suggest you use MSCONFIG to disable some of those startup items, not scandisk (can't tell if you did that in your post - you didn't say what you did).

  6. Thanks for the advice. Is VoptXP compatible with older OSs?

I only disabled the items that weren't needed.

  7. VoptXP is compatible with 95 to XP, I believe. Look it up and find out exactly. It's a great program. I love it.
