T&L means everything thing now
me:
1x cel(p2)533 @ 600 - Abit bp6 (440bx)
384 pc 150 sdram
18gb 10k (133 burst) scsi (raid 0) -$700 !ibm! pull
ati radeon 32mb ddr (directx 8.0 installed)
sound blaster mp3+
3D MARKS = 4500 marks
it cost me only = $2075

my friend
950 mhz tbird (GATEWAY select 950)
128mb pc133 sdram
20gb 7200rpm ata66 (sorry no raid i wonder why)
16MB NVIDIA™ TNT Vanta AGP
sound blater audio pci 128d
3d marks = 2987
and only for $2239

lets see here gateways = trash
and custom = power

I like also like AMD cause first system was (1998)
k6 300
64mb pc66
6gb ata33
sis 8mb pci
tb daytona pci
3dmarks = 600

and i still use it today for office use(1 or 2 games also)

now i know three thing:
1. MAC's SUCK
2. Customs are the best and fastest
3. OEM's SUCk

First and probably most importantly, how can you compare these two systems? You are using 3DMark2000 which is a graphics benchmark and you are putting up a 16MB TNT card against a 32MB DDR Radeon. Of course the Radeon is going to win, silly.
If you want to compare every thing else in these two systems, get SiSoft from Sandra and do some tests. The 950 Tbird will win in all categories except graphics.
If you really want to see something neat, put the Radeon in the Gateway with the 950Tbird then run 3DMark.
Yes you pay a little more for the Gateway name but you also get service and support with that.
You can't really say that this Gateway or any for that matter is trash, especially with the benchmark you are running and the graphics cards involved.
Try and be a little more open minded and think about exactly what you are comparing before you make such generalizations.
By the way, I built my own computer as well.

I most heartily agree with Bubba on that one.

Your Radeon will fly much higher when you hit higher bus speeds. Celerons are getting a little old now in my opinion. Anything less than 100Mhz bus is a lot of drag these days.

3DMARK is a good benchmark for benching GRAPHIC ADAPTERS
So your 3DMARK score depends mainly on the speed+type of your adapter. of course is a shitty old TNT slower than the newer ATI Radeon...
try using a synthetic benchmark like Sisoft Sandra.

Let your buddy use your Radeon card; his 3dmark scores would probably triple...

The clock multiplier Celeron is NOT LOCKED?
533 = 66 * 8? How can you overclocked it with 100 * 6?
If it's true tell me why?

he bumped the fsb speed to 150mhz...
If he just changed the multiplier, he's getting an erroneous report from his BIOS...

If you really want my opinion, I think you BOTH spent waay too much for your systems. I don't know why you are running scsi, but if you just play games don't you think it is overkill? ONLY $2075? Jeezz.....I would take a PIII over SCSI. I have to say again $2075 for a system running a 533 celeron? Which one of you got 'took'?

The only mistake your friend has made is leaving that video card in his computer.

agree, he would do better with a 566 averclocked to 850, I want to know where he bought his parts, so i can stay away from that ripoff company.

the multiplier is locked on all celerons
533 / 66 = 8
i don't know where 600mhz comes from
i use a p3-600 @ 800 and a celeron-366 @ 550
i would gladly trade the celeron for a tbird @ 950

Chas

well, 75x8=600

Actually, he just bumped the bus up to 75MHz. Ya know, 8*66MHz is 533 and 8*75 is 600.

actually nearly 3000 with a vanta is amazing - those thunders are powerful. In any normal new game at reasonable resolution you would really destroy that vanta. 2300 for thunderbird in us$ i suppose. in aussie dollar that would be over 4000$. Heck i could build an awesome machine for that and it wouldn't have pci128 and vanta - whats the moral - don't buy oem - you may think you get a no problem machine but all you get is a couple of months free poor quality phone support and an underpowered overpriced (and detuned for stability) pc that is less upgradable and often includes many low quality parts (not high quality like you may think, they don't give contracts for parts with high price) when you could easily build a system with 100% top quality parts custom if you just look around.

You are truly wierd. Comparing those two systems?! HA! One has over twice as much RAM, and a video card over three times as better. Give me a break!

It's like two tire companies saying whose tire spins faster, theirs on a viper, or the other companies on a chevette!

yep you are absolutely correct ... i just never consider anything other than 66, 100, or 133 as acceptable fsb setting due to the other timing issues ... i guess if i had success @75 i would would not ignore it as a possibility ... happy oc'ing to all, and to all have a great day.

Chas
