Is there a way to hook up a PC monitor to an arcade game? I'm thinking
of building a test rig for boards and I have plenty of old PC monitors.
Also, I have a bunch of 17" and 19" PC monitors that are getting dim.
The adjustments are set to 100% but they are still too dim for people
to use. What causes this, anything I can replace? Caps maybe? I hate to
get rid of them, seems like such a waist...

VGA is approx 2x (31khz) the scanrate of standard "classic" arcade
output (~15khz). Direct connection won't work. It's better to get an
old Amiga, Apple, or atari monitor to do this as they are really cheap.
Actually Amiga made some scandoublers that double the 15khz signal for
VGA, but that is probably too involved and not worth the time.

I bought my first converter from Betson, it was $299.00. That was the one
that I tried on the LCD so I couldn't get it to work. After I figured out
what I did wrong I went back to Betson to get another one, they couldn't get
them any longer... So, I used Google and found http://tinyurl.com/d28rk.
They sell them for $150.00US plus shipping. You have to wire transfer to
them though and that was a pain in the ass.
Keep in mind that I have not tried the one I got from them yet so don't go
crazy if it doesn't work as I think it should.

Matt,
Please post a follow up after you have tried it. That is a good
price for a handy device like that.

I found that after i looked on ebay.. but, Im not sure this will cut it
for what we are trying to do. It doesn't look like it has a port for a
direct arcade video signal.
I haven't bought one of these or tried it yet either. As soon as i
actually have $ after school bills
