I'm trying to get a cheap system and the 2400 comes with an equally cheap
printer. Of course it says to only use with Dell ink, but is this really
true? Thanks for any info

Apparently they are made by Canon, but with deliberate differences in
cartridge geometry to ensure you have to use Dell carts. They are

Yes they are Lexmark and there is a tab on the holder that can be cut/broken
off so you can then use lexmark cartridges.
