pci running through agp

just seen a pc with the pci g/card was running through the agp g/card or the other way around one of the cards is a ati and the othere is a 3dfx from what i can gather
y would someone want to do this
can under stand y use up a pci slot when theres a good agp slot with is quicker anyway

At one time 3D cards were an add-on. 3D cards did only 3D, so you needed a 2D card. The 3D cards acted as a pass through and only funtioned when programs that were written for them were run. The original Voodoo boards were very popular. Games were written specificly to run on these boards in something called GLIDE. It's like openGL or Direct3D. The deal was you couldn't play many games if you didn't have a Voodoo board.

Voodoo was 3D. Seems like ancient history.
