Gforce Mx image looks ...compromised.

Hi;
I had two computers : at my work i have G400 &win2000.
at my home i bought Gforce MX and Win2000.
I installed directx8 on both.the thing is that when i run quakeIII on the G400 it looks Awesome but with my Gforce MX it looks ,at best ,ok.all settings on the GforceMX are for "Best quality" . could it be that the G400 have better image effects &quality than the GforceMX ?

no, the geforce card supports texture compression, the matrox card not, so you are comparing compressed vs uncompressed textures.

to turn texture compression off edit your q3config.cfg file and replace

seta r_ext_compress_textures "1"

by

seta r_ext_compress_textures "0"
