LOL,
I was just reading that and saw that Fatal Fury 3 was more rare than
Quantum.
Those KLOV folks need to buy a clue. I mean seriously, connecting to
VAPS, which hasn't been updated in ages and doesn't reflect the whole
collecting community any longer.

I kind of like it! The 'rarity' logic is flawed right now as you point out
since the database isn't as actively updated as it would be nice to see.
Also, the more rare games are more likely to be collected than some really
common or newer games. But I like to see the counts on known number of
collectors. It's neat to look up a game and see that you're the only one
that has it (even if it's not true). (Mayday!!) Maybe this will provoke
more people to create and maintain VAPS entries, as they'll see something
tangible from it. And as a result the KLOV link will get more meaningful.

Maybe more people would have VAPS entries if it used a current version
of KLOV for its database and didn't randomly delete entries for no
reason(mine was deleted some time in the two months folowing my last
audit, so I know it wasn't because I failed to audit).

My Bally/Midway Power Drive is listed as Very Rare with no known
machines in collectors hands. I'll let it go for 5 grand if anyone
wants to own a one-of-a-kind collectible arcade treasure!

now klov has become just as ridiculous as vaps.
any real collector knows it. but what about the newbie who has something
super rare now, and klov supports it, LOL.

The thing that bothers me most about KLOV is that it's rarely updated - I've
been sending a bunch of pics of marquees, logic boards, screen caps, and
added a new title or 2 and nothing has been added to the listings and it's
been awhile now since I uploaded this stuff. I can see all of the files
pending in the queue but they are stuck in limbo at this point.
I'd much rather see this stuff updated vs. the "rarity" listing thing that
they recently added.

Funny, Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf is listed as rare too, with only 2
boards on VAPS (One of which I'm guessing is mine)
This proves one of 2 things (or maybe both):
Rarity isn't necessarily a measure of value
or
This whole thing with Vaps on KLOV is just about worthless.

The *really* scary thought is that some newbie is going to find klov... look
up his machine (say Quantum) see that it's a very common one (maybe even
price a *rare* machine on e-bay) and decide that it's not worth even trying
to sell and simply trash it...

I'm glad that KLOV and VAPS exists for many reasons.

KLOV is an invalubale resource but I think they got it wrong on this.
They should call it 'most collected' or something like that instead of
the misleading 'rarity' label. Lots of rare games arent going to be on
that list because they actually ARE rare and nobody has them. Their
logic is flawed.

I don't think this will encourage people to add stuff to vaps, just the
opposite. You have a financial incentive not to since you could ruin
the rare rating, devaluing your game.

The logic goes off of VAPS entries registered, which unfortunately were more
valid years ago before today. I don't know any collector in recent years
who has cared about what their rarity label says....KLOV is alway a first
stop when looking up a game for pic purposes versus the rarity spin on it.
Anyone who SELLS based on the rarity information is just stupid, and those
in the know are aware of it. Those who aren't deserve to believe it.

like quantum...
here's the problem with using vaps as the source... it's simply not
representational of the *true* collecting field. Most of the people who
throw their info up on vaps are the tried and true, die-hard collectors
(you'd have t be to keep entering your info every few months... sigh...).
As such, they are sure to have many more *rare* games then the general
collecting crowd (how many people really even know that vaps exists...
certianly far less then there are buyers on e-bay). You just don't get a
good sample-set in order to be able to have any meaningfull statistics.
