When I attempt to use the Disk Deframenter in WindowsXP, I get a message that
reads "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the
volume: (C:). Please run chkdsk/f." So, I am not able to run the
defragmenter. Now, I seem to remember being instructed to do something
similar because I wasn't getting the Windows "Welcome" screen (without having
to choose an account). Now, when I boout up my system, it goes straight to my
desktop(which I want), but now, whatever I have done to solve that issue, has
caused another problem.

Start > Run and type in "chkdsk /r" without the quotes. When chkdsk is done at the next restart, try defragment.
