Both Windows installer and InstallShield fail

Hi,

I am becoming very desparate now. The windows installer doesn't work
any more. I get the message:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if
you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is
not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for
assistance."

Typing:

1. "msiexec /unregister"
2. msiexec /regserver

Does not solve the problem. Even in safe mode "msiexec/regserver" does
not fix the problem.

I also have a problem with InstallShield. When I try to deinstall any
program with add/remove program, I get the message:

"The InstallShield engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. The RPC
server is unavailable."

Looking at the services panel, I see that both RPC and RPC locator
service are running.

Can anyone please help me??????
Maybe both problems are linked.

I fixed it by reinstalling SP2
