I'm averaging 72.0 fps in half-life. I wanted to know if I should be getting more then this.

The rest of my system:

P4 2.53
512megs of 2100/333mhz ram
XP home
80 gig WD 7200rpm hd

Shouldn't I be getting 99.9 with this?

I think its something to do with your refresh rate. I have a GF2 MX400 and a p3 and I also get exactly 72fps LOL (your R9700 pro has the same performance as my £40 card). Have you made sure v-sync is off?

My sig's faster than yours, and it overclocks better too....

I fixed it, I had to type fps_max 100 in console. it's at 100 now but it does drop into the 70's and sometimes 60's is this normal?

Hmm not really related to this topic but if you run a Counter-Strike DEDICATED server, does your video card in that server affect the performaance of the CS dedicated server overall?
Like does it matter what kind of video card you are using or it's not going to make any difference at all since it's just dedicated and you can't see anything?

it's just the fps cap LOL...
here's how to change it (in console type):
fpx_max 100 (you could go higher, but it won't help, the hl engine is capped at 100 fps, only god knows why). the default is 72 fps. I'm fairly sure that's the right command but let me know if it doesn't work.

Its also an old game. So new graphics cards dont show their real potential. Man, when I got Half-Life I had a Voodoo 3 and an AMD 233Mhz and it played fine...

Oh I see. haha thought so.
So the video card for running a dedicated server has absolutely nothing to do with this? Is it all based on processor speed?

Reply to Vince604

Well hl is what 4 years old? So unless you have a something weaker than a tnt1 and a p1 133 the game will run fine. If you're running HLDS and HL-client at the same time (on the same comp) obviously you're going to need a fairly descent processor.
But why not just run the the DS on a dedicated box instead of wasting resources?

On a different note: even thought hl is old, the fps still should have been able to go past 100, oh well.

Hmm I think so. Haha alright it's all good. No I'm using a P1 233 as a server and I guess my friend has no idea what he's talking about. He thinks the video card is making it lag which I said was impossible because the server isn't even displaying any graphics...... Anyways thanks for the help guys.
