Hard Drive Fills Up/ Don't know why??

I would appreciate any help anyone could give me.

I have a IBM thinkpad with Windows XP Pro. It has a 25G hard drive.
I keep getting error messages telling me the c:drive is full.
I have deleted all non-critical programs. ( The only large ones I have left
besides XP are Office XP, Lotus notes, and my Ipod software.)
I have also deleted all non-essential files. ( I have 893MB remaining used
in My Documents. This includes the songs for my Ipod.)
It seems after I delete files/programs within 1 or 2 days whatever space
I've freed up is used again.

I have tried using the search function to find large files. This hasn't
helped.

All in all, I can only account for about 7-8Gigabytes of the 24.8 used.

Ok, there is a few things you can try, that I did when this happened on a few
PC's at work. Are there any unknown programs running in the back ground that
you don't know of? How to find out is:

READ fully before doing anything, choose what best fits your needs.
If you can backup your XP FIRST.

1. CRTL ALT DELETE
A. Is there something on the list that you suspect that is taking up space,
like spyware..
I. What you can do for this in search for Microsoft AntiSpy Beta 1
Download it, it will allow you to find unwanted programs, that you won't
normally see. It will let you delete torjans, ect. It will keep your
borwser settings the same.. Basically what I am saying is, yes, it will take
somemore space, but will allow you to clean up your computer. And at the
same time keep your PC protected. USe this as a last resort, if nothing else
works, becuase I don't want your C drive to get overloaded. You can always
uninstall ..

2. Delete all cookeis in your browser, and TEMPORARY internet files.
Delete the files in your TEMP file. This will free up some space and let
your system run a bit smoother.

3. Don't have too many icons on your desk top.

4. Don't have too many prgrams running at once that you don't need. I know
that this is a memory issue, but for some reason it helped...

5. Close all start up programs that you don't use. IE. the ANITspy can
help with this. FYI these are the programs that load once you sign into XP..
like a chat program, or to automaticallysign on to the internet. They are
the small icons next to your clock on the start bar.

Is it an upgraded PC? or did you purchace it with XP on it?

I know from the past, that mp3's can take up some room.. Im not sure,
however on your case. I mean its a 28. gig. I have an 18 gig, and have only
used half the space. I have been in your situation.. have you scanned for
spyware, and viruses?

If I think of anything else, i'll let you know..

If you're using Norton AV, empty your protected trash bin files.

Also very important that you defragment the drive after deleting all
this stuff. In fact why dont you run a defragmenter regularly, that
will take care of fragmentation levels and free disk space.
