what os are you running?

for some reason i can't get better than 5700 marks with this setup (btw this is a friends computer):

tbird 1 gig
a7v mb with 1.4d bios
2x128 mb pc-133 cas 3-3-3
ibm ata-100 7200 rpm hdd
gulmont geforce 2 gts 64mb
win2k with via patch and small page min. patch
via drivers 4.28
direct x 7a
and the drivers that came with the card

also i took out the gts and put in a 64mb creative ultra using the det 6 drivers that came on the cd with it and only got a score of around 6500. any clues on why?

thanks,
ws6

It very well may be a driver issue with win2k seems that os is just not as good for 3d gaming just yet. However what drivers are you running. go into device manager and select your video adapter and then click on drivers and then driver file details ( it may be a bit different in win 2k not sure). I get 7700 score running stock speed on my classic athlon 950 and a gforce gts pro ( stock settings)

the drivers for the ultra where 6.3.1.0. here what about this score?

the system:
a7v with 1.005a bios
amd duron 650 clocked to 867 (102 bus by 8.5)
1 256 pc-133 cas 3-3-3
2 ibm ata-100 30 gig 7200 rpm hdd's in raid 1 with a
promice raid card
300 watt power supply
good case cooling
tnt 2 32mb elsa vid card clocked at specs
direct x 8.0
det 6.3.1.0
all via drivers and patches installed
win2k pro service pack 1 with ms via patch and small page
fix
and the cpu never got hotter than 49 degree's
i ran 3dmark on the system and got a 2670 BUT i had stuff running in the background (like 3 windows of irc, icq, and a newsgroup reader) so it isn't a true score but i was thinking that it should do better. anyone have any idea why i can't get better scores? in the past i have got over 3000 if i remeber right

thanks,

You should not be using the det drivers for the ultra the actually decrease performance for that card.

5000 or so isn't amazing, but isn't too bad for Radeon anyhoo... it won't give you the same scores in the benchmarks that a GF2 Ultra will (which should get 9000+ on a 1Gig Tbird), not by a far shot...

When I had the Radeon DDR 32mb AIW card, for one day I add before I returned it, I got one successful benchmark at 5436 on 3DMark 2000. I have a TBird at 1050mhz, with my GeForce GTS 2 32mb DDR my score was 7860. Big difference for same system but different card, and you could tell within Quake 3 Team Arena that the ATI Radeon was lugging at times in high resolution maps, where as the GeForce GTS 2 just keeps on going.

That's not bad. My Athlon 700 machine has a GeForce 2 MX with 256megs of CAS3 memory and the best i can get (overclocked) is 3500 (1024x768 32 bit color and 32 bit textures).
January 18, 2001 3:17:42 AM

hey jesse, what os??

i got right at 4000 with a visiontek mx and a 700 in win2k with 128 pc-133 (cas 3) and det 6 drivers. i did do a little tweeking to get that score though.

holy cow- you gotta help me out man. I'm running 98 SE. I've done all the tweaking i can think of. Detonator 6.67 drivers (overclock enabled). I'm using a crappy GF2 MX though- 6 or 7ns RAM.

Now i know how bad I need to upgrade. I scored an insulting 1084!!!
Time to get rid of my trusty pII 333 and TNT pci card.
January 18, 2001 6:52:51 PM

Just for a point of reference, my best score is 5509, default 3DMark 2000 benchmark.

This is with my system overclocked as far as I can get it. (It's stable but only with the case open).

Abit KT7 mobo
Duron 600@1008 Mhz, 106 FSB X 9.5
OCZ SDRAM @ 141 Mhz, CAS2, Normal Timing (strangely, faster than Turbo on the KT7. See http://go.to/kt7faq for details)
Visiontek Geforce256 SDR @ 150/210
January 18, 2001 7:34:20 PM

just for a comparison.. with a geforce2 MX(205/215)

on win98se i got 5520+
on win2k i get 4630+

but the stability is worth it.. i'll just plop in a faster chip, and upgrade the gefroce2 mx down the line

duron 650@896, pc133@149 cas2

Abit BE6
P3 @ 558mhz
124mhz FSB
128meg RAM PC133 @ cas 2
TNT2 Ultra Xentor 175/183mem
3D mark 2000 result = 3016 with 2.17 Detonator Drivers. (same with 5.22, lower with Det 3. I get less troubles with the 2.17 in Half-Life games like FLF, CS, TFC.)

Gentlemen (and ladies, if any), you're all out of my league. I went through the roof with my unbelievable score of... 43 using a GeForce 2 MX!!!

Very impressive. The lowest score that I've ever seen was a 38. That was on a system with an 8mb ati. We thought the computer must be broken so we grabbed another model to demo. They were all like that! I couldn't sell any of those with a clean conscience.
