I have a new Athlon 3400 and Asus motherboard and I am moving my old
computer parts to this machine. When I statup windows I get almost to the
loggin screen and then I get the blue screen of death. This is the stop messge
0x000007E( 0X0000005, 0Xf8646750, 0XF89C1430, 0XF89C112c )
I have search google for this and found that 0x000007E -
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
and 0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
A memory access violation occurred.
After furthor searching I find that it is probably a driver problem, which
is exactly what I thought was the problem to begin with, but which one.
The board is brand new how do I now which driver is at fault. If I could find
a log file to explain which driver is at fault it would help. The
Ntbtlog.txt file
logs drivers loaded and not loaded on successful windows statup not on
unsuccessful ones ( which is a lot of help by the way ). Any advise on how
to proceed.

Did you just move the hard disk from one machine to the
other? If so, you may need to do a "repair install" from the
CD on the new machine first.

If it's just a driver problem you should be able to logon in safe mode and
proceed to view the Event Viewer in Mi Computer\right click, Manage\Event
Viewer.
Once you have ID'd the faulty driver you can go to the Device Manager and
uninstall the device, or simply unplug undispensable devices to begin with,
though you may want to try the logon aproach to identify the culprit driver.
for safe mode press F8 a few times as the computer starts up.

Unless it is made by the same vendor, using the same architecture and
CPU type (AMD or Intel) then you will need to reinstall windows.
(repair will do)

EXAMPLE: I got a new mother borad which was made by the same vendor
(MSI) and used the same architecture (x86) so i did not have to
reinstall windows.

Unless your new motherboard is identical to the old one you *must* do
a Repair Install in order to properly configure Windows XP for the
components in the new motherboard.

Good luck
