Hello again ppl. I have a voodoo5 5500 agp and I am looking to get rid of it to buy a GeForce card. I have about 300 buxs to spend and I am confused as hell as to which one to get. I looked around and there are so many GF cards MX PRO Ultra I don't know which one would be in my budget. Also since my V5 can't handle any bus speed above 133 can the GF cards run any higher then 133? I have been with voodoo since the good ole days but it is time to let it go *sniff*. I was thinking of getting the pro or even the Ultra if I could afford it. So what's the best one to get for around 300 bux?

I don't think you're getting the Ultra in that budget, no way, no how... you should be able to squeze in a PRO though...:)

The pro is the next one down from Ultra right?

yup
Ultra, Pro, GTS, MX

MX is the lowest one, however, there are numerous versions. Some are crippled by having 64 instead of 128 bit data path, some by having SDR instead of DDR RAM... and they all run at lower clock frequency

Have you look at the ATi Radeon. its a pretty good card and its the only thing left 3d gaming wise to the geforce series.

Cel 533 - 256mb sdram
15gb HD - ati radeon 32mb ddr (200/200)

Beware of the GeForce MX DDR, I read somewhere that the MX can't take advantage of DDR memory. I believe it had something to do with having half the pipelining of the Pro and Ultra. They went on to say that Nvidia's reasoning to sell it probably has something to do with marketing and supply.

as I said, it either has SDR RAM, or if it has DDR RAM, it has 64bit instead of 128 bit pipeline to memory... either way its a crippled Geforce, but its priced to suit so...

also, I upgraded drivers and got NO increase on my 32MB DDR ATI AIW 3dmarks... darn you all :-P

Get the GTS with 64MB from Visiontek for around $280 on Pricewatch. It comes with fast memory.

i would really hang on to your voodoo5 until the next gen of nvidia cards come out. the prices on the geforce2's will be dropping significantly. but if you've really got the itch try something from leadtek. they have great prices and performance.

I don't really have the itch I really just want to have my P3 700 I have go to over a gig. I know it is capable since I have had it at 1050 on another machine and I have the ram to do it. It is just the V5 can't handle anything above 133. That is the major thing that I am looking for. But also speed in 3d games is a must. Well thanks for the replies think I am going to hang on to it until the new GF comes around. Thanks again.
