faxing in winxp

I recently purchased a new Dell computer which came with a Conexant D850 56K
Modem. I use a broadband connection so the modem is only for faxing.

I set up and configured my fax as instructed in the WinXP Help site. I was
especially careful to enter the fax telephone # with the canconical form.
Nevertheless, when I sent the fax it would never dial the 1 and area code and
thus fail. Even after rechecking and double checking the setup
configurations I continued to receive the same error message.

Finally, in desperation I just used regular numbers not the canconical
form. The fax went through with no problem.

I'm satisfied with my fax now and had no further problems. I'm posting this
message as I would be interested in comments regarding this situation.
