Should I get a 1.2Ghz athlon and an Asus V7700 32Mb and accept that I'll have to upgrade the graphics in a year or so OR get a 1.1Ghz athlon and a 64Mb GeForce Pro. The price difference is about +£30 for the second setup but that is not too much of a problem

The video card will buy you much more 3D performance. Going from 1.1 to 1.2 Ghz will buy a small amount of overall performance. I doubt you would notice the difference. Spend the money on the video card
