Sharereactor.com has just posted the Doom 3 E3 Demo. I haven't finished downloading it, but needless to say I'm pumped. I hope it works.

Make sure to read the .txt file before trying to play.

Also, you will need the edonkey server which you can get at edonkey2000.com

November 3, 2002 3:10:21 PM

what do you have in your rig? just wondering cause I don't want to dl this thing and have it run like crap.

I agree. I don't know why, but I've only got like 86mb downloaded. Oh well.

Please tell us your specs so we can get an idea of how much juice this game needs.
November 4, 2002 8:42:44 AM

The only bad thing of the demo is that it needs a monster system to run good. My pc is crap, but a friend has a 2gig athlow with a radeon 9700pro and he gets 10-30 fps.

I believe that it is still too early in development but even so you can see some nice things like the high poly models (humans) and the lightning system.

I think the game will be great once it comes out.

Defeat only makes me wiser

That's just great! I'm getting all kinds of CRC errors when unpacking the files. WHY!!!

So much for the demo.

Is there a way to repair CRC errors?
November 5, 2002 2:20:39 PM

Nope. It's probably a corruption that occurred during the download process. Although it might be in the files themselves. I have a retail copy of Deus Ex that returned CRC errors every time.

I downloaded it as well. I have a Athlon 1600+/512mb ram/ voodoo 4500.

I could barely run the game. I think I was getting like 1 frame per 3 seconds and at like 16 color. So much for that attempt. Like ZerApio said, don't try it without a monster system. This game is using a new graphics engine that will be pushing the limits of even the newest current video cards. I wouldn't doubt that even final release will show that to run the game at a decent framerate (30fps+) and all the goodies on, you will need a geforce 4 ti - Radeon 9700 and a 2ghz+ machine. :(

Hmmm am I doing something wrong. I downloaded it and everytime it crashes. I get the menu, click single player, it says loading, screen goes blank for about 30 secs and then dumps me out to windows.

Ok nevermind my previous problem I went to share reactor and patched it. Works awesome. Average 50 FPS and my god this game is awesome.

My super rig from my other thread runs this game perfectly at 2048x1600 with roughly 85-100 fps.

Don't forget the duct-tape though.

Liar. I was over at your house last night. When I started the game it was at 1000 FPS so quit acting modest.

Ok, am I just S.O.L.? I downloaded it a second time and had the exact same problem. All CRC errors. WTF?
November 9, 2002 2:29:39 AM

What are you unpacking it with? What is the filename / size?

I got it working on my system. the files I got are:
Doom_III-Alpha.0.02-E3.rar = 364 MB (381,781,972 bytes)
and
doom3.e3-demo-alpha-leak.exe = 364 MB (381,781,972 bytes)

Same files, different name. Anybody know where I can get the patch so I dont have to use the consol to start it every time?

Anyhow, this game is AWESOME! even though it puts my system through its paces (1800xp 786mb ram radeon 8500le 64mb) it runs smooth until the enemies start really attacking. But I cant wait to see the finished product, if the ALPHA is this good! Add a soundtrack by Trent Reznor... this looks like a future classic. Hopefully I can beef up my sys before then....

BTW: How do you guys get framerate measurements?

Go to http://www.sharereactor.com/release.php?id=2946 Here you will find at the end of the page a link to your edonkey application. This will load your edonkey and launch a download of the patch for you.

I'm unpacking it with WinAce. It's gotta be something I can fix because it looks like most of you are able to unpack it.

Any ideas what I should try?
November 10, 2002 4:23:54 AM

I cannot get the doom3.patch_and_commands.ShareReactor.rar file to download. the site must be under a helluva strain cause its been down for the better part of a week.

Anyway I downloaded some other patch and i can get the game to run but i only average 10 or so fps (about 15 till the mosters come then down to 1 to 5 fps).
This patch obviously isnt as good as the ShareReactor patch because my menu isnt working. I'm wondering if i can get the game to run more smoothly with the ShareReactor patch.

Can someone please email it to me. Its only a couple hundred kb. (If you can reply and ill leave my email. I don't want to leave it and end up with a couple hundred emails in my inbox. )

Thank you.

so would my AXP 1800+, 512 pc2700, geforce ti 4400 be sufficient to run this thing?

This patch- is the just a modfied settings file and a .map file? Cause I tried that and it still crashes when loading.

Allright...I downloaded it, tried it and wept.

It didn´t work, so do you mind be more specific at what you did to make it run please?

BTW guys are you aware you need to go into console mode before playing? I didnt see it mentioned anywhere. With the one I had you have to load the game, bring up the promt style console window and give it a command line to run. IT WILL NOT work from the Single player menu button. That will crash it every time. You have to tell it to load a map from the console.
November 12, 2002 3:24:29 PM

hmm strange... i've gotten it to work from the single player button... but if I want to go to the next level I have to load the map in the console.

Hmph! thanks for that tip...could you not have been earlier?
The shittiest thing is that I deleted the Doom3 files as I thought it
just didn´t work with my comp...oh well, download again.

Ok, download finished...now how do I get this game up and running?
I´ve tried the console thing where I typed 'Map *name of map*' but it wont work.
What am I doing wrong here?

Look, at what u made me do! Made me move my lazy ass!

1. Unrar (duh)
2. In your Doom_III\base directory, open the runact.cfg file.
3. Comment out the last line. In other words, add the "#" sign in front of the string "devmap $e3_intro" so it looks like the following:#devmap $e3_intro
4. Launch the game using the main exe.
5. Press the tilde key to bring down the console (just like Q3)
6. Type the following: exec runact.cfg
7. Hit enter, and then go grab a soda. Seriously, it takes about 5 mins to load all the crap.
8. Once it is done, you can launch the intro movie, or play yourself.
9. From the console, use the following commands: · map e3/intro (Loads intro movie) · map e3/e3_1 (Loads first map) · map e3/e3_2 (Loads second map) · map e3/e3_3 (Loads third map) · map fred/e3bathroom5 (won't work for some people) Changing controls:From the console, type: bindlistThis will list all the currently bound keys and their functions. Use the page up and page down keys to scroll through the list. The controls for standard movement are not bound to the regular WASD config, so type the following to put it back to normal: · bind w _forward · bind s _back · bind a _moveleft · bind d _moveright Check out some of the other bindings, God mode and give health are already bound for you :-) Checking FPS: type com_drawfps 1

Just got Doom3 working (Thanks for tips folks, Yaks and Flamy plus others)...
Is this game a feast for your eyes or what?
Highpoly characters, realtime (goodlooking) shadows and spooky
environments.

I´ll even consider spending a lot of money on new hardware just to play
this game when it hit the shelves (if it runs slow that is).

By far the most goodlooking game I ever seen.

Many games (if not all) are hyped like hell before they are released.
"This game is best, has the best graphics, gameplay and...bla bla bla"

This game is also hyped but it really deserves it, just think of all the other
games that will follow this one, especially the ones using the doom3
engine. fat!
Finally the games are starting to look as they should do (by my standards
that is  )

Hell, I´ll even consider BYING games if they look like this!

Yea I finally got this f'n demo to work. All I needed was WinRar. Figures. Anyways, this game is gorgeous. But I found something as I tried using the speed_up_doom file, this actually made the game run more choppy than just playing it default. Anybody else find this out too?
November 16, 2002 6:19:03 AM

Yep, same for me...very odd and not-so-logic.
