$1000 Ultrabook

I am looking for a new thin and light laptop that I could use for school. However, all of the ultrabooks I have seen so far in the $1000 range come with horrible displays. I was wondering if anyone knows a good laptop for my requirements which are listed below. Thanks for the help!

Portability is the priority

5. How much battery life do you need?

More about 1000 ultrabook
  1. I'm most concerned with screen resolution so the Acer won't cut it, but the Gigabyte model seems interesting. Thanks for the post :)
  2. I choose the Acer because it has HDD (since you ask for 750GB storage). You'll just have to rely on external HDD with the GB ultrabook for video editing.
  3. Are there ANY Ultrabooks with a high res display and decent specs for $1000?
  4. There are, but you will lose the dedicated GPU.
  5. I dont need one though... its probably bad for battery life anyways
  6. Optimus will turn the GPU off when you are on battery and it's there when you need the dedicated GPU. It makes the ultrabook more capable down the road. But if you are not going to need the extra then:

  7. Alright thanks :)
  8. SONY VAIO S Series SVS15123CXB for $850. Core i5-3210m, Intel HD 4000, 15.5" IPS 1920x1080 screen, 6GB of RAM, 500GB HDD, 4.42lbs,

SONY VAIO S Series SVS15125CX for $950. Same as above, but has 8GB of RAM, nVidia GT 640m LE, 750GB HDD.

If I were to buy a laptop right now it would probably be the Sony 'cause it is pretty hard to find a 15"+ laptop with an IPS 1920x1080 resolution LCD screen weighing less than 5lbs and costing less than $1000.
