A "trial" version? Is it paid for? If not then I don't know what sort of
error it'd be giving you but I don't think it will activate at all. If it is
paid for then yes, you should call in and activate but then it'd also be
wise to check to see if you're blocking the connection with your firewall or
if you're using some sort of compression software for a dialup modem that
would probably want to be disabled. If it's compression software then you
could add *.microsoft.com to the lists of sites who bypass the proxy
entirely.

Well there must be some problem as you cannot activate.

Select the "activate via telephone" option - get operational then look at
your networking problems as you only have 2 days left.

The only current trial version of Windows XP that I am aware of is the
one for the 64 bit version of Windows XP.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/trial.mspx

Is that what you are trying to activate?

You may have to activate it by telephone.

Good luck
