I have a quick question about the GeForce 2 MX and AGP.

My current machine -
450MHz PII
System chip set Intel 440BX AGPset
STB nVIDIA TNT 16MB video card

The AGP is 1x. Will a GeForce 2 MX work in this setup, and if so, would the peformance gain be worth the investment?

If more system specs are needed, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Daramon

My 440BX supports AGP Turbo (AGP 2x) and the performance improvement was immense. I also switched from TNT to GF2MX.

Others on these gorups will tell you that 2x to 4x is no significant change. I'm not sure what performance hit you will see using AGP 1x.

With your reply, I'm assuming then that the GF2MX should have no problem working at AGP 1x. Is this correct?

I'm not sure if there is direct support for AGP 1x.
I checked the website for my Elsa GF2MX and it states that it is compatible with AGP 2x/4x interfaces.

I can try to disable AGP Turbo on my machine and see how it responds... I'll let you know...

I thought the BX chipset supports AGP 2x?

To the best of my knowledge all 2X & 4X cards are backward compatible to AGP 1X. It is supposed to be part of the AGP specification. As for performance gains you'll have to ask the person that made a similar move. I would guess that the gain is substantial. The MX will do 32-bit color but I can't recall if the TNT does.

The reason I questioned the AGP 1x on BX440 is because you said that it supports it. :-P
Yes, I believe that BX can support AGP Turbo, as it was called then. My BIOS won't let me disable Turbo AGP.

Good Luck,
