I'm assembling the components of my next system and I'm still researching the vid card. I've accumulated the following so far:
Abit KT7A RAID
AMD 1G Tbird (w/ Global Win cooler)
Crucial 256mbyte CAS2 RAM
SBLive!
3Com NIC (for cable connex)
I've decided to go with an NVidia based GPU but can't decide if 64 meg is worth it. OTOH, the 64meg cards the clock rate is usually higher, i.e.
GeForce 2 GTS 32/64MB DDR RAM - core clock 200Mhz - memory clock 333Mhz (166Mhz DDR)
GeForce 2 Pro 64MB DDR RAM - core clock 200Mhz - memory clock 400Mhz (200Mhz DDR)
GeForce 2 Ultra 64MB DDR RAM - core clock 250Mhz - memory clock 460Mhz (230Mhz DDR)
The Ultra is simply out of my price range. My decision then is between a 32/64 mbyte GTS or a 64 mbyte Pro (the Pro being a pretty big stretch $$$ wise as well).
So my 'bang for the buck' question is does 64MB make that much of a diff, and if so, is it worth the extra money for the higher clock of the Pro?
