Can anyone help me out with this odd problem?
When I display the properties of my C drive which is actually only about
8.5GB full out of a 37GB partition, the disk space used on the pie chart
display, seems to grow after every reboot by about 1.5GB. Eventually I get
warnings about running out of disk space, even though I have plenty of space
free.
If I run a third party disk space utility such as WatchDisk Space Tracker, I
always get a true picture of the disk space used. I've checked for files
updated since the last reboot, and there's simply nothing there which could
account for the large jump.
I think I've narrowed it down to the System Restore files, even though I
don't think they could ever get so large. If I run a disk cleanup, deselect
all options on the main page, then run clean up on the system restore files,
the true disk space used of 8.5GB returns.
Has anyone got a fix for this glitch?
For the record, I'm running XP with all the latest service packs and patches
loaded.

Hi Wesley,
Apologies for the delay in the reply. I finally got around to trying all of
the suggestions you made. The system restore files were the culprit, which
ties in with the symptoms I was seeing.
Initially I tried to just open the access to the System Volume Information
folder without sharing it, without any luck. This still puzzles me somewhat.
If I have the sole account on the machine, set up as an administrator, why
do I need to share it to view it?
Anyway, thanks for the advice, it makes sense now.
Cheers,
Christo.
