I thought this was already known.

Good riddens, I'm tired of hearing about WoW but then again, it will just be another MMO by Blizzard.

Pretty sure Blizzard told us this a year ago.
September 1, 2009 9:44:04 PM

Blizzard knows they need another MMO. Wow is the most popular MMO right now, but it can't be refreshed forever, it will eventually die of old age. No matter what new things all those expansions bring, it's still the same core game, core mechanics and core gameplay, and after years of playing its' players will eventually tire of it (I did).

So yes, they are right to make a new MMO even if it competes with WOW, overall there should be a net gain on player numbers no matter if some migrate away from WOW.

^ yes they did. Old news...

world of starcraft to compete against knights of the republic
September 1, 2009 10:01:34 PM

World of Starcraft sounds awesome. I would play that.
September 1, 2009 10:05:57 PM

It won't be World of Starcraft. Blizzard said it would be a completely new universe. So it won't have anything to do with Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo.
September 1, 2009 10:10:25 PM

Let hope its good. I have said this before but since the Merger with Activision WoW (& blizzard in general) has gone down hill, getting worse with each expansion until the unfinished WOTLK was released. It still doesn't feel like a finished product. Only play it because of my friends now. Even those sessions i dread from time to time.
September 1, 2009 10:12:13 PM

Maybe it'll be an original IP, they haven't done one of those in 15 years
September 1, 2009 10:19:00 PM

krasnoDoes it mean we will get World of Starcraft?

"Universe of Starcraft" maybe ..., Starcraft is not a World, there are many worlds in Starcraft.

September 1, 2009 10:38:27 PM

In the end the gaming world will consist of 2 things. Playing WoW and playing BLoW.

Stop hyping this next gen MMO Blizzard is going to release. Dont you ppl get it???? This isnt going to release in the next 5 years. We`ll all have a loong beard and use a cane to walk . Get over it.

yes they can and they will. addicts will be addicts

about the news though, they probably will delay it, so i foresee a release date in 2019
September 1, 2009 11:00:23 PM

How about Hello Kitty Island Adventure? lol.
No, I can't because mmo takes too much time and life.
September 1, 2009 11:04:27 PM

I would like to see them develop some new IP's. Warcraft,Starcraft and Diablo are all fine and dandy, but lets try something different from all of those please!
September 1, 2009 11:13:52 PM

World of Tekken... PLEASE!!!
September 1, 2009 11:43:56 PM

World of lost Vikings? Diablo Den? or Beyond AIUR? so many different names.. same option.. 15 bux a month please and pay it with a smile!!
September 2, 2009 12:19:38 AM

God I hope its different than WoW. Hopefully they make it a little more difficult so all the little kids will stay on WoW.
September 2, 2009 12:39:43 AM

a MMO that isnt 80%
September 2, 2009 12:49:42 AM

I'd be more worried about D3 cannibalizing WoW players than a new MMORPG. WoW will only be as strong as the community that plays it. All games are that way for that matter. D2 died when all the heavy contributers exhausted all the possible character builds. It's taken too long for a new content patch and D2 online will stay dead. WoW will suffer the same fate unless they are going to keep adding expansions that press beyond level 99. Time is against them though. They wait too long like they have been for all their other releases, and there will already be some new shiney MMO with a great community to capture their attention for a while.

I like the idea of starcraft MMO. Maybe they can use some of the work they put into Ghost to have a product launch before 2019 as said above.
September 2, 2009 1:21:44 AM

Someday MMO's are going to be marketed like fighter games. WOW vs EQ Universe... EVE vs Star Trek Online... Pirates of the Burning Sea vs Star wars Galaxies would be awesome!
September 2, 2009 2:10:29 AM

I would not be surprised if this next gen MMO comes out sooner than you guys think. Blizzard knows the huge success of wow will not last forever. In fact I think wow is "over the hill". The best days of wow are in the past now. Blizzard will need a new MMO to pick up the subscribers that are leaving wow.

Think about it... next years blizzcon cataclysm will be out as well as SC2. That just leaved diablo 3. I would not be surprised if Blizzard announces this new MMO next year. I am guessing a 2012 release.

September 2, 2009 3:08:48 AM

(IDK why only the first 5 words of my message got through) a MMO that isnt 80% under 16 year olds talking in all caps running around the game braindead and charging into battle with NO plan who goes crazy whenever someone mentions boobs, or some meme in any way, shape or form? one can only hope.
September 2, 2009 4:59:44 AM

Fuck blizzard. they are getting way to much money of all these NERDS!!!!!!!!!! and no matter how bad their customer support or how much they mess up with changes to the game they still keep the nerds coming back when they dont deserve it. Not only that Blizzcon is paid by the nerds not blizzard with their high prices.
September 2, 2009 5:53:41 AM

All we get anymore is old news.

To hell with WoW anyway. I grew out of that game years ago. Yes YEARS! People should be ashamed of themselves for letting it go on as long as it did. So much for innovation, eh?
September 2, 2009 5:59:11 AM

jerohmeeeI would not be surprised if this next gen MMO comes out sooner than you guys think. ...I would not be surprised if Blizzard announces this new MMO next year. I am guessing a 2012 release.

you're insane
you think they'll release a new mmo 2 years after releasing cataclysm ? one year after D3 ? the same year as the last installment of the SC2 trilogy ?
why would they eat into those games' revenue by releasing a new mmo ?
seriously, one year after D3 ? Everybody will still be playing that and SC2, and WoW will STILL be strong.
There is NO way we will see this before 2015, and the poster above who said 2019 is probably closer.

and, yes, this article was really worthless. It contained nothing new at all. A few posters above stated this and they are correct. I don't know why they received negative votes.
September 2, 2009 6:19:47 AM

Well... 11 million players (or something like that), paying a varrying amount ($15 in U.S.A., more in Canada/Europe, less in Asia), let's assume they're making $10 USD per user... that's about $100,000,000 a month or $1.2 billion a year... I think they have the money to invest, so it's only smart they do something with the money.
September 2, 2009 8:27:17 AM

SuperphrankPretty sure Blizzard told us this a year ago.

More or less, yes.

I was expecting they would say a bit more about their "brand new MMO" this blizzconn.

Yep, substract 300 million $ expenses (this number comes from blizzard itself) and you still get insane amount of cash.

they have already stated it will e a new IP, get with the program people :p

Blizzard community manager Zarhym has confirmed it on the official WoW forums that the upcoming MMO will be a brand new franchise ages ago.
September 2, 2009 11:32:37 AM

I'd like a nice blend of Wow, GW, and Lineage. Gw has it right with a skill-based fighting system. Wow has it right with the insane amount of items, quests, and bosses. Lineage has it right when it comes down to character art.

Also figure this: with the 85mil in profits each month, do you not think they can develop multiple games at the same time? With the economy how it is, getting workers isn't all that hard if they need to hire. Also, D3 and SCII are in a different catagory.

Haha I love the nerd-raging nerds calling people nerds!

Blizzard has announced there will be one "major" release a year, will SCII in 2010, Cataclysm will most likely be late 2010, DIII in Late 2011. SCII will have released all 3 campaigns by 2011, tack on a xpack for each and your looking at 2012-2013.

Meaning we can expect to see the new MMO around 2014. 5-6 years from announcement is standard for Blizzard, as long as the whole project doesnt get scrapped ala DIII (RiP Blizzard North).

Will WoW still be going strong 10 years after release? I don't think it will have 11 million subscribers, but Diablo 2 still has tens of thousands of people playing, and it didn't have nearly the player base; so expecting WoW to still be kicking in 5 more years is not unreasonable.
September 2, 2009 1:00:53 PM

Totally different MMO? World of Starcraft : The game where players go down on missions, not quests! No levels, ranks! No raid groups, squadrons!

You'll see... it'll be VERY different...
September 2, 2009 2:27:15 PM

As long as the old art/character concept artists are no where near this new MMO I may look into it. (Ya lame excuse but WoW & WCIII have this disney'esq art look)
September 2, 2009 3:24:25 PM

I would like something like Fallout 3 (Post-apocalypse)
September 2, 2009 4:26:32 PM

imprezawrxI would like something like Fallout 3 (Post-apocalypse)

Oh... that would be so tight!! I love Fallout 3!! An MMORPG in that universe would be so awesome (assuming they don't Disney the hell out of it to try and get a PG rating).

Wish I had the time to play more than one MMO, but alas I must work ;(
September 2, 2009 5:04:57 PM

Their next gen MMO is a steam punk type game, pretty good idea IMO, should be fun. (No, i don't care if you don't believe me.)
September 2, 2009 7:27:42 PM

They need some new MMO.

WoW IMO, sucks. I really don't see how people get sucked into it.

September 3, 2009 3:10:47 AM

TBH, a new universe would be appreciated as they've been doing Starcraft, Warcraft, and Diablo universes for a long while now
!
