I'm looking to purchase a new laptop with a decent screen resolution (probably a 15.6" screen) and a trackpoint.
For some reason it seems that in the last ten years trackpoints have all but disappeared and been replaced by the far inferior touchpad interface so laptops offering this option are difficult to come by. Resolution also seems to be an issue as it looks like you're lucky to get HD+ as a screen option (let alone FHD).
I'm considering purchasing a Thinkpad W530 right after christmas (hopefully there will be a sale in the neighbourhood of 20% off) as this is one of the only models I could find that had what I wanted. I formerly had a Dell Latitude D830 which fit the bill but the build quality was somewhat lacking (it completely fell apart after two years). I recall IBM had a great reputation for quality (which they used to milk a premium price from consumers). I have heard people complain that Lenovo has capitalized on this reputation to sell expensive laptops that are not as good as they were when IBM owned the company but I don't know anyone personally with a thinkpad especially a W530.
If anyone has any experience with this model or knows of any other reasonably priced laptops with a FHD screen and a trackpoint I would greatly appreciate the information!
