Looking for a GOOD gaming laptop (Budget is $1500)

I'm not really good at searching for computers to buy and up to now all of my computers have been low budget ones with not so great capabilities. This will be the first time in my life that will I buy an expensive, hopefully high-end laptop that is worth every penny.
So can anyone please help me search for a good gaming laptop?
I have my eyes on this laptop right now
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+17.3%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive+-+Black/6697664.p?id=1218782849014&skuId=6697664&st=Dell%20-%20Inspiron%2017.3%22%20Laptop%20-%208GB%20Memory%20-%201TB%20Hard%20Drive%20-%20Black&cp=1&lp=1

I'm content with the i7 CPU, 8gb ram is fine and the 1TB HDD is good too, but I'm not sure if the GPU NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is "good enough". My budget was originally $1000, but on my uncertainty if it was good or not my mom told me that since I'm buying an expensive laptop a few hundred extra dollars were fine to get a REALLY GOOD laptop.

Can anyone please tell me if I should get the laptop above or if there's an even better laptop within my budget? Thank you very much!

  1. Well, here's the problem. To get a laptop that's amazing for gaming, you're going to have to spend even more.

Here's my question. What's this going to be used for? If it's for school, I'd suggest getting a refurb for about $200, and then building a desktop with what's left - even a $3000 gaming laptop is beat, hands down, by a $1000 desktop.
  2. You should be able to play even newer demanding games on at least low settings (bit don't expect much more than that), you could also play virtually every older game (2+ yes) on medium to high. If you are looking for something with a better graphics card the Lenovo Y580 ($860) has a GTX660M (but only has a 15.6 in. screen If that matters to you). http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/ideapad/y-series/y580/

This is one the best choices as a gaming laptop having an unparalleled price to performance ratio and integrating a lot of useful features which span beyond a gaming ready portable machine. It runs on an Intel Core i7-3630QM which is accompanied by 6GB of RAM and a 750 GB hard drive for storage.
  4. if you want to go above $1000 but stay below $1500:
    1080p, i7-3630QM, gtx670mx for $1350 (after $100 off of NP9150 laptops)

  5. Is this the Lenovo Y580? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+IdeaPad+15.6%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+6GB+Memory+-+750GB+Hard+Drive+-+Dawn+Gray/6963365.p?id=1218817529792&skuId=6963365#tab=overview
The spec seems the same but it doesn't say Y580
and is it better than the laptop I listed before?
  6. first off i think gaming should be done on a desktop,
but if i had to use a laptop i would want

    ASUS G75VW-NH71
    Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M

    ASUS G75
    Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M

    MSI GT Series GT70
    i7 3630QM GTX675M KillerLAN 1080P Blu-Ray
  7. I really need the portability of a laptop, I understand fully that a desktop is infinitely better than a laptop when it comes to gaming.

i think thats gonna be your most power per dollar right there. 2 years ago i bought an msi gx740 and had zero issues with it.

EDIT: i just noticed that someone already posted a link to the GT-70 for the same price. dunno why i missed it before i posted. i 2nd that machine.

The performance and cost ratio just doesn't fit.
Anyways I'm buying the Lenovo Y580.

Thanks everyone for helping me out!
