most games use the ipx protocal, make sure it is installed on all the computers.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.

Err since when? Never had it installed on my machines and run lots of lan games fine. I have seen people complain about not being able to play in a work place though because they do not allow UDP broadcasts.

Where do i set that up, or check to insure that it is set up? The UDP that is, i have the IPX on both machines already...

UDP should be already enabled since you are not using any kind of router/firewall.

Was thinking it wouldn't broadcast them on a wireless network but i dunno, that's my only guess hehe.

you can share files between the computers?

yeah, i can share files and all that.....the other system is set up to "get an ip address"....should i assign it one of my own?

If you can share and the like then it is getting an IP address. You can check that by going to Run and putting in cmd, then ipconfig at the command prompt. Or run winipcfg if your on 9x.

yeah, it is getting an IP...tho it changes with every boot, and it does not reflect my server's IP at all...

you have two or more computers running on a lan with one connection to the internet and no router? is one of the computers running nat?

actually I was under the impression he had no Internet connection, or was at least not trying to access it with the games. If not, that would be a problem.

DSL Connection, running Intel Anypoint Wireless II networking. Drives are mapped and shared. Printer is shared. WOW....just discovered that IPX is NOT loaded in bindings....although i am certain that it was before....must have been taken off when i recently updated the software for the wireless networking. Now my question is wherer should i put it? I have the following in my Network properties;
Intel(R) AnyPoint(TM) Wireless II Network 11Mbps USB Adapter
NetGear FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
TCP/IP->Intel(R) AnyPoint(TM) Wireless II Network 11Mbps USB Adapter
TCP/IP-> NetGear FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter

so where should i ADD the IPX binding? And does it matter that the only place that my static IP is showing is in the Netgear Ethernet TCP/IP settings? I have no troubles sharing the internet connection with the other system.

You'd need to bind it to the devices that communicate with the other machine, does the game actually say ipx/spx when your trying to set up a game? I vaguely remember a game a long time ago that i think had that option.

no, the game does NOT actually say IPX/LAN, it only says "internet" "local" or "favorites"....i am trying to use the "local" setting, as that is for LAN games. The game that i have been trying is Jedi Knight 2:Jedi Outcast, but i have tried to connect with several others with no luck.

I'd try to find a message board for the game then and see if they've had any problems with it.
